mos2009014-jaffabox-1Corrugated manufacturer Jaffabox has kept faith in long-term supplier Mosca by becoming the first UK company to buy Mosca’s new SoniXs strapping technology.

Based in Birmingham, Jaffabox has been a leading supplier of cardboard boxes since the company was originally founded in the 1940s. Today it operates a state-of-the-art 100,000 sq ft factory on a five-acre green field site adjacent to Birmingham International Airport. Producing millions of boxes every year, the company requires fast, efficient end-of-line strapping to cope with its impressive throughputs.

Mosca SoniXs represents the latest advance in strapping, which replaces the traditional friction seal with a sonic wave for the fastest and strongest seal yet achieved. The ultrasonic technology offers a consistent seal up to 85% of the tensile strength of the strap, while sealing times are significantly shortened. In addition, it is easy to change the complete SoniXs sealing head in under thirty seconds, representing further time savings during production.

Jaffabox has regularly purchased Mosca machinery in the past, including its MCB corrugated bundler and UATRI automatic strapper. “I believe that Mosca’s equipment and support have both been extremely good, which is why we have continued to place orders with them over the years,” confirms John Amyes, Director of Jaffabox.

In fact, by 2009 all of Jaffabox’s end-of-line strapping needs were met by Mosca bar one 20-year-old pallet press. It was for this reason that the latest machine – the Mosca SoniXs KCK-121 with rotary arm stretchwrapper – was purchased for the factory.

While SoniXs is new to the UK, it is far from unproven: already 50 SoniXs heads have been installed worldwide, successfully completing over 2 million cycles. Nonetheless, Jaffabox’s decision demonstrates notable forward thinking in bringing the technology into Britain.

“We have always embraced new technology and we are confident that we will enjoy working with Mosca SoniXs,” concludes John Amyes.
