simon-portraitConsolidated Fork Truck Services (CFTS) – the body responsible for developing and administering the materials handling industry’s national accreditation scheme for Thorough Examination – has appointed Simon Emery as its new chairman.

Simon, MD for UK operations at Crown Lift Trucks, has more than two decades of industry experience. He has served on the board of the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) for three years.

The CFTS Thorough Examination scheme was established through collaboration between BITA and the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA), the two leading bodies in the fork lift truck industry.

Hearing of his appointment, he said: “It’s an incredible honour to be selected for this important role. CFTS is highly regarded by our accredited companies, our industry and the customers whom we serve.

“We have gone from strength to strength since our launch in 2002. Despite our industry facing harsh trading conditions in recent months, CFTS still accredited 21 new companies in 2009.

“This has been achieved by maintaining the highest of standards and delivering the best value for money to our members. As a result, we’ve seen a steady rise in the number of users choosing CFTS accredited firms to meet the statutory requirement for Thorough Examination.”

Developed in co-operation with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), CFTS Thorough Examinations have been specifically designed to address the special needs of fork lift trucks. The laws governing the use of fork lift trucks state that any machine over 12 months old – including hire trucks – must hold a current Report of Thorough Examination.
