dsc_6409Entrepeneur and Pall-Ex CEO Hilary Devey will be taking to the screen to rescue failing small companies as part of a Channel Five television series.

The straight-talking, self-made haulage millionaire will appear on The Business Inspector, a four-part series made by Optomen and sponsored by HM Revenue & Customs in which she will put her knowledge and expertise to the test to help transform small companies.

Each week (from 10 to 31 March at 8pm) Hilary will tackle two struggling British businesses – one man bands, kitchen table entrepreneurs and struggling firms run by talented individuals – by injecting business sense into their passion projects.

She said: “Britain’s brimming with creativity but a terrifying number of businesses go bust each year and this shouldn’t be happening.

“I hope to teach businesses how to improve their all round business knowledge and direction, cash flow, marketing strategy and in some cases even their enthusiasm.”

Hilary will teach business owners the key skills essential for a thriving business, helping our nation of entrepreneurs keep their dreams alive by getting businesses shipshape and profitable.

Hilary’s business experience began in the distribution sector at Littlewood’s, followed by Tibbett and Britten, and Scorpio (part of the United Carrier network). She then spent seven years in the retail distribution sector at TNT before leaving to set up her own business. Bankers refused to back her business venture and she was forced to sell her house to fund its start up.

Today, as Chief Executive of The Pall-Ex Group, the UK’s No. 1 palletised freight distribution network, Hilary is an inspirational role model for both male and female entrepreneurs.

Having started from nothing, she now leads a network of businesses which boasts a combined turnover approaching £100m and serves numerous blue chip customers.

Hilary’s triumphs include such prestigious awards as the 2007 Ernst & Young UK Entrepreneur Award, Natwest Everywoman of the Year in 2008, Vitalise Business Woman of the Year twice – in 2004 and 2008 and Woman of Worth Businesswoman of the Year 2009.

Andrew O’Connell, Five’s Head Of Factual Programmes, said: “Hilary is a fantastic new talent for Five and her enthusiasm, expertise and experience make her the ideal presenter to help transform floundering businesses and teach them practical skills.”

Becky Clarke, Optomen’s Editor For Factual, added: “Hilary Devey is like no other businesswoman out there. She’s an amazing combination of down to earth grit coupled with an extraordinary business mind – for any small business person working with her this will be a life changing experience.”

Founded in 1996, Pall-Ex has grown to become the UK’s number one network for distribution of palletised freight.

Boasting a membership of around 100 of the country’s leading hauliers, Pall-Ex’s strong and vibrant brand is synonymous with quality, reliable service and innovation, and is testament to its sector-leading capability, knowledge and experience of founding and operating pallet networks.
