ernest-doeErnest Doe’s new Braintree branch in Essex houses an impressive two-tier stores department designed and installed by SSI Schaefer.

Ernest Doe, a family owned business with over a hundred years experience supplying agriculture, construction and ground care equipment, recently moved into purpose built premises in order to cope with increasing workloads on the retail, parts and workshop side of business.

Having served Ernest Doe for a number of years installing various parts stores across a number of branches, SSI Schaefer were called in at the start of the project and continued to work closely with all parties over design, installation and overall project management until completion.

Construction of the new branch took place on Ernest Doe’s previous site which occupied a large area that was split into two areas – one sold to a supermarket chain and the other for the new build.

The new parts store is complete with Schaefer’s two-tier Regal 3000 modular shelving system, a quick economic solution to storage problems, with open mesh steel flooring and 500mm deep shelves using Schaefer’s RK plastic shelf containers and TRF adjustable dividers.

A strong heavy-duty pallet racking system provides storage for pallets and bulky products whilst a separate 50 square metre mezzanine floor adjoins the two tier structure.

A spokesperson for SSI Schaefer said: “The installation was completed on time and within budget for Ernest Doe’s planned grand opening of the showroom and parts store. Although we are an existing supplier we were benchmarked against competitors and successfully met this challenge on best design, specification and competitive contract price.”

Andy Bloomfield, Group Parts Manager, said: “We are delighted with the new parts store. SSI Schaefer really did come up trumps on the overall design in terms of space optimisation with the potential for future expansion if necessary and overall value for money. The new department is working at full capacity with higher than expected efficiency levels.”

The Braintree depot is the first new build for Ernest Doe that was constructed to the latest Building Regulations which has resulted in a BREEAM standard of Very Good. BREEAM is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings and many parts of the depot’s design incorporate energy saving facilities.
