speedshield1The UK’s Cat® Lift Truck distributor and leading service provider, Briggs Equipment, has launched a new asset management tool.  ‘Speedshield’ is an asset management tool that promotes optimum safety and efficiency, giving customers complete control over their fleet.

Speedshield encourages best-practice driver behaviour by enforcing a tailored HSE checklist on start-up. This standard feature gives users a perfect, paperless, online HSE compliance record with exceptions locking out a unit and informing appropriate supervisors.

Speedshield is the second instalment of innovative management tools developed by Briggs to works alongside BE Fleet, offering a range of modules so that users can select the options and solutions to match their exact needs and requirements. Options include:

• Zoning: enforce variable speed limits around a site or multiple sites

• Two-way commands: control fleet performance and speed in real-time from any online PC

• Impact detection: managers are immediately alerted by any significant impacts facilitating fast and efficient investigation

• Auto-shutdown suite: covering everything from unlatched seat belts to impact emergency shut down to idle time-outs

“We want our customers to be in full control of their fleet, minute-by-minute,” says BE Fleet Divisional Manager, Les Knight.

“Speedshield gives customers the ability to be pro-active instead of reactive. It provides real-time fleet information instead of standard KPI’s.” Les continues.

New to the UK and exclusive to Briggs Equipment, Speedshield directly impacts bottom-line costs by reporting in real-time on speed, truck efficiency, damage and misuse. Customers can then access this information on any internet PC through a web-based application, eliminating the need to buy an additional expensive software license, offering tiered levels of access and control. Crucially, customers have the option to send commands to their fleet or an individual unit, rectifying issues immediately.

With two-way communication between the truck and an online reporting system, all machine activity can be accessed anywhere in the world and can be linked to individual drivers. Speedshield can be programmed to read existing company I.D. cards ensuring that only licensed operators use a given machine.

With a control box rated up to 90v DC, Speedshield can be hard wired into any vehicle without the need for converters or additional connectors. Once fitted, Briggs’ BE Fleet team train the customer to use the system for independent fleet control.

“The system connects via global roaming GSM that sources and connects to the strongest signals. This way, efficiency and control is kept to a maximum,” continues Les Knight. “Speedshield and BE Fleet are two-halves of a unique whole; severing forever the reliance of a fleet manager on the manufacturer or their supplier for KPI reporting or fleet control. We are breaking the mould and putting the customer at the heart of their fleet with their own online reporting and control.”

ss_fm12moduleWith customers such as Celanesse Assitate, Travis Perkins, Honda, Mars and Nestle evaluating Speedshield and Kanes Foods having purchasing the system, it is already having a noticeable impact on the market.

“We have a unique product with unrivalled cost saving and efficiency benefits for all lift truck fleet users but we’re not sitting on our laurels,” says Les. “We are already on the next stage of development and in the very near future this technology could allow customers to pinpoint unit locations on online maps, anywhere in the world, locating assets to within a few feet.”

Briggs has recently produced a new brochure for Speedshield. For more information call Briggs Equipment on 03301 23 98 14.
