3G Food Service & Seafood Solutions, the specialist multi-temperature food and beverage distributor to the food service sector, has selected advanced route optimisation software from Paragon Software Systems. The company supplies a wide variety of clients in the food service sector, including La Tasca, Slug & Lettuce, Wagamama, Jamie’s Italian, Gondola, Ego and P&O Ferries.
A family owned and run business for over 35 years, the Hull-based company selected the Paragon Multi Depot planning solution as the natural choice to automate and optimise its UK-wide routing and scheduling.
“Paragon will replace local manual planning for each depot, allowing us to centralise our planning function and providing us with a transparent view of all distribution operations. 3G will use Paragon software to plan 130 daily routes for its fleet of 47 specialised multi-temperature vehicles that make an average total of 600 deliveries per day. “The software will allow us to review and improve our fixed route network and flex depot boundaries to gain maximum efficiency throughout our operation. In addition we are looking to reduce our road miles, fuel usage and emissions. We anticipate that it will also help us to reduce our carbon footprint,” says Alex Smales.
The inherent flexibility of the software allows 3G to further enhance its routing and scheduling. For example, 3G plans to add live vehicle tracking data to the system using Paragon Fleet Controller. This will give the operations department the ability to recalibrate plans using accurate tracking information.
“Vehicle tracking will add a further dimension to our planning. We are reviewing some systems that will allow us to gather live information from each vehicle and feed it directly into Paragon using the Fleet Controller product. With this we can compare actual delivery times against the Paragon generated plans and then adjust them to gain even greater accuracy,” concludes Alex Smales.
