The reliability and performance of Mosca’s specialist strapping solutions for the corrugated industry has been confirmed by Durham Box’s decision to extend its use of Mosca equipment to four machines, including a refurbished second-hand model.
Durham Box has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of corrugated packaging in the north east of England. Independently owned and operated by the same family since being founded in 1989, the company prides itself on meeting customers’ high standards by offering excellent quality, delivery, service and price.
Reliable, high-speed strapping plays an important role in achieving these targets as it ensures that finished boxes can be quickly, safely and effectively shipped from the factory. It was for this reason that Durham Box installed the Mosca ATRS squarer-bundler and Mosca RO-TRC strapper in 2000.
The machines proved to be an enormous success, giving Durham Box exceptional performance and control of its end-of-line operation. Mosca was therefore the natural choice when Durham Box invested in a major modernisation of its factory to support the company’s growth in 2007. The project included the purchase of several large production machines fuelling a need to add four further strapping machines to match their output.
The new models includes a second ATRS, but with a difference. So confident was Durham Box in the capabilities of the machine that, to cut costs, they accepted a second-hand model that had been returned to Mosca during a part-exchange. Before being supplied to Durham Box, the squaring unit was fully refurbished by Mosca engineers, and a completely new sealing head and arch system was built in to meet modern line demands. This update included the addition of Mosca direct drive technology, which minimises the number of moving parts for excellent long-term reliability and performance.
At the same time, Durham Box has installed a Mosca UATRI in-line strapper, a Mosca KCA pallet press and a stand-alone ROMP-4 machine. With a total of six Mosca models in place, Durham Box benefits from a comprehensive strapping solution that matches fast production speeds for optimum throughput.
Durham Box remains extremely impressed with the quality of Mosca’s equipment. “The latest machines – including the refurbished unit – have been running smoothly since installation,” confirms the company’s Managing Director, Mike Morris. “We feel that our end-of-line needs are in reliable hands thanks to Mosca.”
