img_4047Loadhog Limited, the Sheffield-based manufacturer of returnable packaging solutions, is proud to announce that it is a finalist in the IMechE business innovation of the year category of the 2009 National Business Awards sponsored by Orange – the UK’s most prestigious business recognition programme.

Loadhog was founded five years ago and since then five innovative patented supply chain products have been developed and launched to solve customer problems in the glass bottling, mail, retailing and manufacturing industries. Loadhog has been successful in obtaining 15 patents and registered designs.

Each of Loadhog’s products not only delivers significant cost savings to customers, through ease of use and the elimination of one trip packaging materials, but also class leading environmental benefits.

Ed Stubbs, Loadhog’s general manager, said: “We are delighted with this recognition. We challenge convention in everything we do, and pride ourselves on working closely with our customers with a ‘can do’ approach to solving their problems, which has given us the reputation as the supply chain innovator.”

The company started with the Loadhog lid which enables loads to be secured to pallets without banding or plastic film. For the glass bottling industry the Smartstak system was developed, which has eliminated breakages in the glass industry, and earned the company a Queen’s Award. The Pally, a combined pallet and wheeled dolly, enables retailers to move goods from manufacturer to point of sale using only one handling device. The company’s fifth – but not last – ‘child’, the Hogbox has been developed for a major home furnishings retailer to improve their supply chain performance.

Martin Lyne, director for small and medium enterprise for the National Awards’ headline sponsor, Orange, said: “To reach the final stage of the UK’s most important business recognition programme is an enormous achievement. It is companies like Loadhog, who are bucking the economic trend and delivering excellent results, that will benefit most when the upturn finally comes.”
