durkopp-2Over the past few years Dürkopp Fördertechnik has developed a number of innovative sortation technologies, consolidating its position as Europe’s leading designers and suppliers of material handling systems. With an outstanding track record in garment distribution and other high volume sectors, the company has supplied systems to many of the biggest high street names in the UK and mainland Europe including Next, ASDA, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Debenhams, Zara and H & M, as well as third party providers DHL and TNT.

With headquarters in Germany and UK offices in Warwickshire, the company employs some 160 staff and has annual sales of some 30 million euros.

RFID technology for individual items

The new Rolladapter system incorporates innovative RFID technology to track individual hanging garments and other similar products in real time, throughout the warehouse from goods-in to dispatch. Recently installed in Next Group plc’s national distribution centre to process orders for their Retail and Directory Business, the Rolladapter device is equally effective in managing single home delivery items and handling volume retail outlet stock.

Flat goods sortation

To meet the growing demand for sorting single item flat goods such as flat garments, books, CDs and pharmaceutical products, Dürkopp has developed an automated split tray sorter with throughput capacity up to 20,000 items per hour for items weighing up to 7.5 kg.

Depending on the application, goods can be either dropped off directly into containers or onto chutes and roller conveyors. As with other Dürkopp concepts the key point is flexibility, as single item systems can be designed to meet individual needs with tight left and right turns, as well as gradients of up to 15º. There are no practical limits to the length of the system or the number of drop-off points.

Low cost hanging garment systems

durkopp-1With more companies looking for the benefits of full automation but reluctant to commit large capital funds, Dürkopp’s Set Carrier provides the ideal solution. A manual, cost-effective system, it uses simple plastic carriers to transport garments manually along an overhead tubular rail framework.

Debenhams installed a Set Carrier system for garment distribution at its Northampton RDC. Operatives can direct the carriers using switches in the overhead rail to divert and convey hanging garments to wherever they are required. The system’s simple design meant that Dürkopp’s team was able to complete the installation on an existing site in just eight weeks, without disrupting Debenham’s operations.

After-sales support is vital, as the majority of the company’s clients operate a 24/7 business.  Dürkopp offers a dedicated round-the-clock helpdesk and monitoring centre manned by specialist engineers who are able to access the system remotely to diagnose potential threats and suggest preventative maintenance.

durkopp-3Should a system malfunction, the helpdesk, together with a well-established UK support team, will provide rapid response to ensure minimum downtime and maximum productivity.

With a client portfolio comprising so many leading retailers and other UK businesses, Dürkopp’s reputation for innovation and excellence in engineering continues to thrive.
