receiving-the-awardTransdek UK, a Nottinghamshire-based logistics and materials handling service provider, were nominated winners of this year’s prestigious Motor Transport Award for Best Use of Technology. The awards, which took place on 1st July at the Grosvenor House on Park Lane, were judged by a combined panel of 93 independent industry experts and recognise outstanding innovation and success in delivering benefits to the supply chain.

The award category required entrants to demonstrate clear evidence of projects that have enhanced customers’ and their own operations through the innovative use of technology. Transdek’s winning entry took the form of a range of rapid-install double deck lifts that have enabled the cost effective introduction of double deck trailers to both distribution centres and stores for some of the UK’s leading retailers and their suppliers.

The judges commented that Transdek had used technology to ‘open up double-deck trailer operation[s] to previously unviable sectors’, bringing a ‘significant improvement to overall operating efficiency.’

Leon Butler, Operations Director of Transdek, who received the award, said, “We are immensely proud that our achievements have been recognised in this way. There were some major players shortlisted alongside us in our award category, and to win is a great honour.”

“The beauty of our double decking solutions is that they make fixed double deck trailers an efficient and affordable reality. By using these lightweight vehicles, operators such as Boots and Tesco are able to double deck all mixed product loads to capacity and to cut their costs and reduce carbon emissions across the board.

“We are delighted that the judges – as well as recognising the benefits that we have already provided to our customers – gave recognition to the massive potential of double decking for the future of the retail sector.”

With a history of development and promotion of innovative high-capacity commercial vehicle and loading system designs, Transdek perceived an opportunity in the double deck market 5 years ago. They then set out to produce a range of lifts specifically for the loading of double deck vehicles with a focus on improving installation times, operating efficiency and the compactness of the lifts.

“We are now able to fully install and commission even our largest modular double deck loadhouses in as little as 24 hours,” explained Butler. “But this alone is not sufficient to make a project work; we also have to take in to account vehicle movements in the yard, variable vehicle heights, and goods storage capacities to ensure the optimal integration of our customers’ double deck fleets.”
