nightfreight-lorryNightfreight has acquired three new sites in the South West in response to customer demand for new services in the area. In addition the company is investing around £3 million pounds in a new fleet of 45 vehicles and upgrading the sites which are situated in Bridgwater, Dawlish and Saltash.

As a result of the acquisition all 120 existing staff have transferred under TUPE and an additional 12 new jobs have been created. All staff are undergoing an intensive training programme and are all being offered the opportunity to take NVQ qualifications. Nick Burgoyne has been appointed as General Manager for all three sites.

Local customers will now be able to benefit from a range of service offerings including home delivery, contract logistics and Nightfreight’s unique ‘pay as you go’ service. Nightfreight is also implementing local customer care centres based at each depot to ensure that local business can benefit from a local service.

Commenting on the acquisition Peter Louden, Managing Director at Nightfreight, said: “The operations were previously owned by Rainbow, a service provider to Nightfreight, and the decision to make this acquisition is in line with the company’s policy to offer clients strong national coverage and a wide range of services to meet their requirements.”

Nick Burgoyne, General Manager for the South West, said: “One of my first jobs was to visit businesses in the area and explain about the change of ownership and how it could benefit them. The feedback was extremely positive and it is clear that many companies in the South West are continuing to do well despite the economic climate. However they are facing increased delivery costs, customer demand for higher levels of service and an uncertain market. By offering them a full range of delivery services, backed up by strong local customer care, we hope to help them with tailored solutions which will enable them to become even more competitive and put a stop to their margins being eroded by distribution costs.”
