sickNEW LASER sensing technology from SICK UK has led to the launch of the DT50 laser measurement sensor – promising to set a new benchmark in warehousing and distribution for performance reliability, accuracy and ease of installation.

The DT50 is expected to find a wide range of uses in storage, handling and distribution from warehouse crane positioning, load and full/empty bin presence detection to crane anti-collision control.

“SICK set out to eliminate the frustrations with laser sensors currently available at this price point, particularly lengthy and complicated set up and reliable detection under changing conditions such as reflective surfaces or difficult light conditions,” explains SICK UK product manager Darren Pratt.

“The new compact DT50 is the answer, achieving a step change in laser sensing technology for a product in this class and achieving high performance, even in conditions that would confuse most high-end sensors.”

The DT50’s temperature-stable light spot achieves a positional accuracy of 10mm over the whole 10 metre distance range – up to seven times better than comparable products.

Black/white shift difference for the DT50 is negligible, meaning complete confidence in measurements no matter what the colour of the surface. It is equally competent in measurements with reflective surfaces – performance features usually associated with much higher-priced laser systems.

Easy to install, the DT50’s site-proven, user-friendly intuitive set up and key operated menu can be navigated without the operating manual, allowing easy, on-site adjustment to suit working conditions and practices.

Virtually immune to ambient light interference, the DT50 has a stated immunity of up to 40,000 lux making it suitable for a wide variety of conditions, from poorly lit warehouses to exterior site applications, and even with rapidly changing light intensities, e.g. floodlights.

The DT50 has a wide temperature range from -30?C to + 65?C. With a tough zinc alloy casing and optional weatherproof housing it can be used in conditions as diverse as cold stores, ports and steel mills. Its fast response time and high repeatability ensure it is always operational even with fast moving targets.
