pa-brakes-e.jpgParagon Software Systems’ routing and scheduling optimisation solution has assisted Brakes, the UK’s number one foodservice provider, to win a prestigious £multimillion contract with Aramark, Ireland’s leading catering contractor to industry and the education, defence and healthcare sectors.

Brakes used Paragon to establish precise depot locations, fuel and carbon efficient routes, and the exact number of vehicles needed to fulfil Aramark’s foodservice requirements for daily delivery of chilled, frozen and ambient foods to nearly 300 outlets.

“We use Paragon as a strategic tool to help us to demonstrate our service capability to our customers. For Aramark, we were able to input all of its outlets and delivery requirements into our Paragon system, together with our existing Irish resources from our main warehouse in Lisburn. This then helped us to identify the additional resources we needed to fulfil Aramark’s contract. Armed with this information we were able to map out and establish three new crossdock distribution centres, one each in Dublin, Cork and Galway. With 12 new routes added we were also able to calculate the exact number and type of delivery vehicles we needed to add to the existing fleet,” says Eamonn Woodcock, Brakes Customer Supply & Development Director.

Brakes also makes extensive use of Paragon Multi Depot software to develop efficient routes for its entire UK operation, making thousands of deliveries every day from over 50 distribution centres nationwide. Paragon outputs a precise map and overview of each route and helps reduce Brakes environmental impact.

“Minimising food miles is high on the agenda for Brakes and, with Paragon’s help, we are able to generate the most efficient routes to minimise our environmental impact. Coupled with strategically placed distribution centres and modern vehicles, this optimises our operations throughout the UK. This not only improves customer service, saves fuel and ensures that we are making best use of our vehicles, but also reduces our carbon emissions,” says Woodcock.

David McLelland, Purchasing Manager for Aramark adds: “Brakes detailed service proposition, based on their Paragon software system, enabled me to make the most cost effective decision for Aramark Ireland, with our corporate social responsibilities being at the forefront of that process”
