When it came to choosing a manufacturer to supply it with a top of the range wire mesh decking system for a prestigious new warehouse complex it was fitting out for kitchen distribution company JP Distribution, Derbyshire based SDE Ltd had no hesitation in awarding the business to B Smart Associates. Formed two years ago to service the rack manufactures and trade distributors with a range of wire mesh decks and Frame Deflektors, B Smart Associates was able to provide SDE with its cost effective Wire Mesh Decks within the company’s tight time schedule of just four weeks.
Located in Bretton Park in Dewsbury, JP Distribution’s new head office and distribution facility includes a 50,000 sq. ft. storage facility designed by SDE to accommodate a range of products including white goods, kitchen carcasses, drawer fronts, handles and door knobs. As Fire & Safety regulations necessitated the installation of a sprinkler system, SDE decided to install wire mesh decking.
In the event of a fire the wire mesh decking, unlike closed wood or metal decking, allows the smoke to rise directly to the sensors, which quickly activate the sprinklers thereby allowing water to progress unhindered to the source of the fire. Smart Wire Mesh Decks can reduce the number of levels requiring sprinklers thus minimising the number of sprinkler heads needed in an overall scheme.

Launched two years ago, Wire Mesh Decks are designed and manufactured to fit any pallet racking system by quickly and easily dropping over the front and rear support beams for easy installation and relocation. Providing numerous benefits over traditional decking, the state-of-the-art system provides a horizontal barrier against falling stock to facilitate safe, low level, manual order picking. The Wire Mesh Decks improve inventory visibility and therefore safety by promoting better lighting levels whilst also allowing effective air circulation and cooling through the warehouse.
Offering excellent storage capability for non-palletised cartons, large stocks of Smart Wire Mesh Decks are available in standard width size panels of 900mm and 1100 depth. They can be used on most adjustable pallet racking and long span shelving and have a load-bearing guarantee of up to 1,500Kg UDL per panel.
