f1carhighres.jpgTOSHIBA TEC in partnership with RFIDEA, the RFID solution specialists for identification and traceability, was recently selected by the organisers of the 2008 BELGIAN F1 GRAND PRIX to implement a global secured access solution for all 300,000 expected visitors. RFIDEA and TOSHIBA TEC had already showcased their RFID-based access control know-how at the 2007 Grand Prix F1’s VIP Stand. Impressed by the solutions high level of quality, security, reliability and ease of use, the Belgian F1 Grand Prix organisation requested expansion, to deliver a total solution for 300,000 tickets and 85 entry points for the 3-day motoring event.

At the race, the TOSHIBA TEC B-SX4 RFID-ready HF barcode printer flawlessly delivered 300,000 RFID-tagged F1 tickets that automatically allowed thousands of fans a fast track entry in a fluid and uninterrupted way to one of the highlights of the motor racing season.

Each ticket had a pre-programmed chip that included unique authorised access information which security officials equipped with PDA’s scanned upon entry. The information was then wirelessly uploaded to a secure network server acting as the event’s real-time management control system.

TOSHIBA TEC hardware and RFIDEA’s know-how delivered a flexible solution that eliminated the challenges of potential fraud, ticket printing errors and crowd control while increasing the security level, according to François Detraux, RFIDEA Project Engineer.

This smart high-tech solution is applicable to other sporting events such as soccer and tennis as well as international cultural events on a worldwide basis.
