Industrial safety specialist Troax UK Limited is highlighting new developments in machine safety at PPMA 2008, displaying practical and cost-effective methods for manufacturers to meet Health and Safety legislation. The centrepiece of Troax’s stand is Rapid Fix, a versatile and easy to install machine guarding system designed to ensure the highest levels of safety for employees working near automated packaging lines and similar types of production area. Also on display is Smart Fix, a safety fencing system designed for ease of installation, conveniently supplied in kit format.
Rapid Fix modular machine fencing is versatile and exceptionally easy to install – in around a third of the time required by conventional fixed guarding systems. The fencing can be assembled and dismantled by just one operative using an Allen key; its quick demounting facility means that maintenance staff can quickly gain access to the guarded area to carry out servicing or repairs, helping to reduce machine downtime.
The machine fencing also saves floor space within the production area as its unique 100mm x 23mm mesh aperture enables it to be placed very close to the automated machinery. Rapid Fix meets all current machine safety standards such as EN-953 and EN-292.
Another new development on display this year is Smart Fix, a flexible, modular machine fencing system that, again, is quick and easy to install by a single operative and is supplied in a convenient kit format.
Smart Fix’s unrivalled speed of installation (it incorporates a number of innovative design features such as easy-to-fit brackets, hinges and corner brackets) makes it an extremely cost-effective safety solution for guarding virtually any type of automated packaging line. To further reduce assembly time on site, doors are supplied in a pre-assembled kit and can be fitted with Troax’s Safe-Lock mechanical inter-locking system.
This unique design means that Smart Fix panels are very easy to remove and replace once in position. It takes less than two minutes to take a panel from a run of fencing to allow maintenance staff to quickly gain access to guarded areas to carry out machine servicing or repairs, dramatically reducing machine downtime. The fencing retains its inherent strength and rigidity, even while the panel is out of position.
As with many Troax products, Rapid Fix and Smart Fix are based on the proven wire mesh concept, creating a solid barrier to prevent access yet allow visibility, while meeting all relevant EU Directives and Norms.
