ub.jpgThe Best Connection employment group has won a contract to supply temporary drivers to United Biscuits. The contract, which was initially discussed as a localised agreement by its Derby branch, has been extended into a national agreement for the supply of drivers for distribution of the company’s extensive product range which includes McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes, Penguin, Jacob’s Cream Crackers, Twiglets and KP Hula Hoops. The contract, which was won following a successful trial resulted in The Best Connection, which is No. 1 in the driving sector, successfully securing the deal from United Biscuits’ incumbent supplier.

The Best Connection operates 65 branches across the UK and employs around 600 permanent staff. The privately-owned business was launched sixteen years ago to provide temporary labour to the driving, industrial and warehouse & distribution sectors. Its turnover in 2007 exceeded £172 million.

The procurement of the United Biscuits contract was mediated by Xchanging, which provides procurement services to a diverse range of customers including manufacturing, retail, banking and IT customers across multiple geographies including the UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands, India and Australia.

McVitie’s is among the best known brands in the UK. UB’s branded biscuits were purchased by over 90% of UK households in 2007.
UB owns and operates 15 manufacturing facilities of which 11 are in the UK.

UB employs over 9,000 people, over 7,000 of whom work in the UK.
