depth_1.jpgSCA Packaging’s Industrial Division has completed delivery of one of the most challenging projects they have ever undertaken. Working with Blustin Heath Design & the Magma retail chain they have manufactured an entire shop out of recyclable Heavy Duty corrugated board. The latest Magma store situated in the Heart of London’s Covent Garden is a completely new concept: a product shop, or design shop, or concept shop, or strange multi-purpose shop, or what ever you feel like calling it. Stock ranges from stationary and cards to home and fashion accessories, jewellery, games and toys, eco-products and all manner of design objects – basically anything that that bears the stamp of creative intelligence upon it.

With this thought provoking portfolio the shop could hardly have been furnished with the ordinary run of the mill shelves and counters. The desire to keep the shop fixtures in line with the product range required an innovative, fresh and environmentally conscious solution.

Marc Vali explains why Magma chose to use SCA’s heavy duty board “We had been thinking about corrugated board as opposed to wood or metal as we felt it would give the space a bright, none suppressing and environmentally friendly feeling. The main challenges we had to face were dealing with a whole new set of rules in terms of design and shop fitting issues. The fixtures compliment the shop perfectly with intricate folds and amazing structures, which have received overwhelming praise”.

Mark Furman SCA Packaging’s Market Manager commented “The vision set by Marc and his team really challenged both our design and material capabilities to the limit. Our design department really rose to the challenge and created a fantastic solution that not only looks good but has created a ground breaking application for our material. In essence we make a lightweight, strong and environmentally friendly product that for the past 30 years we have typically made in to large export boxes. This shop fitting project has really opened our eyes to where else we could use our material, this ranges from applications for paper coat hangers to emergency shelters”.
