coleman.jpgA Midlands-based logistics company is refocusing its business as it continues to respond to changes within the market. Ralph Coleman International, which is based at Holly Lane Industrial Estate, Atherstone, Warwickshire, was launched in 1971 by Ralph and Maureen Coleman. Over the years it has grown and developed thanks to the husband and wife team, who have kept any eye on industry issues and developed the business in line with customer demands. The latest move involves switching the focus from transport to tray and pallet washing, which it already does for a number of major supermarket chains. Transport and warehousing will still play an important role but the wash sites will provide the potential for growth. In addition, this month the company will launch its new brand, under the banner Coleman Logistics.

Ralph said: “Successful businesses have to be able to respond and adapt to change in a positive way. The new brand and name is about us positioning ourselves as a total logistics company and moving away from our traditional transport roots.

“Although these are uncertain times, with increasing pressures on transport costs, we believe that there are still opportunities – not least if you deliver great service and identify savings for your customers.”

In line with this, the company is developing smaller, more strategically placed wash sites around the country. This will mean shorter journeys for its own and customers’ vehicles so there will be a financial saving as well as a positive impact on the environment.

Alan Pitman, who was appointed managing director last year, added: “We are in a unique position as we have our own fleet, warehouses and wash sites. In addition the business has been built on traditional family values and a strong service ethos, which we believe will be even more important during the economic downturn.

“Although we recognise the next 12 months will be challenging we are confident that we are well placed to develop our existing relationships and win new business.”
