Rapid Racking has been awarded a large contract to design, supply and install a comprehensive storage solution for a new warehouse and distribution centre acquired by leading IT services and distribution company, Zycko Ltd. The 20,000 sq ft purpose-built facility, which is located at Hillmead Enterprise Park, Swindon, will benefit from space saving features including an extensive mezzanine floor and two tier system offering eight storage levels that will accommodate Zycko’s hi-tech product storage and access requirements. The installation includes around 500 shelves, a pallet racking system that will hold over a 1000 pallets weighing up to 800Kg each and 72 hand bays for secure hand storage.
Commenting on the project, Ben Hogg, operations manager, Zycko Ltd, said: “One of our initial ideas was to engage with space planning consultants but this wasn’t necessary as Rapid Racking was able to take the project from conception to completion and provide all the necessary expertise. They advised us on installing a two tier system including a 175m2 fire rated mezzanine floor which had not been considered previously. This has optimised our working space and greatly increased storage capacity.”
All planning work was undertaken using in-house pallet racking software that builds safety parameters into the design by identifying beam positions, bar coding requirements, turning circles and pallet rack locations. Rapid Racking’s team supplemented the technical implementation process with professional project management.
