Mike Bunn, one of the best known and most experienced people in the industry, has been appointed as Managing Director of loading bay specialists sara. Mike’s quality pedigree is worthy of mention, and serves to underwrite his positive plans for sara. He has been associated with the loading bay and materials handling industry since the early 1970s when he joined a scissor lift company as a sales engineer, and after a spell as the production manager he went back into sales before moving into Otis Group.
Having spent time in the field as a sales engineer, a field sales manager and finally a divisional manager with Otis, it was time to join Dyna Seal as Managing Director. This company focused entirely on loading bay equipment. It was at this time that, during a visit to the Netherlands, Mike spotted pre-cast concrete being used for dock leveler pits and it struck him immediately – so to speak – as being the solution to the quality and time issues that were prevailing on logistics sheds at the time. Mike’s entrepreneur spirit kicked in, and he introduced the Prefab ~Dock concept into the UK market and with help from a leading property developer advanced the product to the stage it is at today: where any project with more than five dock levelers is considered for prefab dock technology.
A recent spell in another loading bay company brings us up to date with a new challenge – managing sara LBS
And the future is perfectly clear, in Mike’s own words “We will provide a work environment where our employees can grow and meet their potential in an atmosphere of excellence. We will strive to be the industry benchmark as regards service to the customer in every aspect, and we will take pride in maintaining a level of integrity in all our interactions with our business partners and associates”.
So who is the person behind the title? Well Mike Bunn has been an “Industry specialist” for wheelchair stair lifts for British Standards, and he has been part of a technical group for International Standards Organisation (ISO) for Lifts for the disabled. He is still an executive committee member for the industry’s trade association ALEM and indeed has been Chairman in the past.
Having just reached the golden age of 60, Mike claims that his wife, two daughters and three grandchildren all keep him on his toes and feet firmly on the ground – and in those rare moments of spare time he is an avid reader of American crime fiction and has recently started cycling again as well as being a keen (some say fanatic) angler!!
And on a final note, Mike says “These are going to be exciting times and I am really looking forward to making things happen at sara. Equally I will be delighted to hear from friends in the industry and the media, and they will be welcome here at any time to talk about the business we are in and enjoy some old fashioned hospitality”.
