Union Industries’ Eiger Freezer Door, which has taken the frozen storage market by storm, has scored another success in the Republic of Ireland. Union, which also manufactures the market leading Matadoor range of Hi Speed Industrial Roller Doors, has completed the installation of its world beating Eiger Freezer Door at Dawn Country Meats, Co. Mayo – one of Europe’s leading food processing companies – to help overcome the company’s cold store access problems.
Dawn Country Meats form part of the Queally Group, Ireland’s largest privately owned agri-business. Union previously installed two Eiger Doors at a Queally Group owned site in October 2005 and due to the doors’ success, the company decided to use the same door at the Ballyhaunis site. With forklift trucks constantly entering the new cold store, the company was finding it difficult to maintain the required temperature of -30ºC.
The fast opening and closing speeds of the Eiger Doors not only helps conserve energy by reducing to a minimum the exchange of air from ambient to freezer areas, but speeds up the process of moving the food products in and out of the area. At Dawn County Meats, the Eiger Door, which operates at 1.6m per second, activates to open using a radio control system, then closes automatically.
The Eiger Door is the only industrial freezer door that incorporates a bottom beam ‘Crash-out’ device, which minimises the effect of impact damage. This system is supported by an ‘Auto-reset’ facility allowing the door to continue working after the bottom beam has been crashed out.
The Eiger Door features a patented dehumidified air re-circulatory system, which removes the moisture that causes ice to form while also keeping the drive and working parts dry and clean.
