queensaward.jpgWolverhampton based safety firm Fortress Interlocks has been awarded the Queen’s award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade. Fortress Interlocks designs and manufactures safety equipment that protects lives in hazardous workplaces and its interlocks work in sequence to ensure employees are safeguarded from dangerous machinery by eliminating the possibility of human error.

The Queen’s Award recognises Fortress’ continuous growth in export sales sustained over the last six years and marks a successful double as the company were awarded the Queen’s Award for Innovation at last year’s ceremony for its unique, modular mGard range of interlocks.

Seven years ago, export accounted for about one third of total Fortress sales. As a new product, the CL lock, was introduced, the company decided to develop a new business strategy for its target markets. With the help of established international distributors, growth in its export market has more than doubled over the last 6 years and although domestic sales continue to rise, Fortress now exports over two thirds of its total product, with the robust amGard being its largest international seller.
Managing Director of Fortress Mike Golding commented on the award: “Winning the Queen’s Award is a fantastic achievement, particularly following on from our Queen’s Award for Innovation last year. It’s a measure of our achievement, and a return on our self belief that we can be an internationally thriving company. But mostly, it’s a reward for all the Fortress employees who work so hard to make this company successful.”
