Smart-Space, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and installers of re-locatable, semipermanent and permanent buildings, has completed the construction of a permanent, steelclad building and two extensions to existing facilities for Cultech, at the company’s Port Talbot location.
Cultech’s core business is the development and manufacture of nutritional food supplements and probiotics for the international health care market, supplying high specification products to the practitioner market of GPs and nutritionalists.
The 10-metre by 54-metre standalone storage facility will help Cultech continue to meet the growing global demand for its products.
The six-metre by eight-metre extension expands the size of the plant room. The 18-metre by 18- metre double-height extension provides additional storage capacity and a canteen and entrance for Cultech’s on-site team of 240.
Smart-Space’s light-weight permanent building system was ideal for the site’s ground conditions. Key to this is the use of a high-strength light-weight structural frame of cold rolled steel sections rather than conventional hot rolled and fabricated steel girders and joists. The frame is clad in insulated composite sheeting to give weather tightness, insulation and to provide additional bracing to the structure.
The projects form part of a major capability investment by Cultech, which frees up space for the development of an additional, world-class production suite for the manufacture of pro-biotics – the latest stage in the company’s move towards securing approval from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
“Reacting rapidly to fast-evolving market conditions meant time was of the essence for this project and Smart-Space reacted positively to our requirements,” says Cultech’s managing director, Dr Nigel Plummer “The two-phase project took around six weeks and we are delighted with the results.”
Smart-Space provides fast and cost-effective building solutions for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
Solutions are based on lightweight modular constructions, which can be installed in a fraction of the time and cost of conventional buildings.
