frontWelcome to the July 1 issue of Warehouse & Logistics News. As the year rolls round and with six months of 2015 behind us, once again it’s time for the great and good of the industry, plus anyone else who can get their hands on a ticket, to make their way to the Ballroom Suite of the Dorchester Hotel in Park Lane, London for the 16th annual UKWA Awards for Warehousing 2015.

Former director general of the CBI and trade minister, Lord Digby Jones will be guest speaker, entertaining the 500 or so retailers, manufacturers, supply chain and logistics practitioners, 3PLs and UKWA members in attendance. Once again Warehouse & Logistics News is the official media partner to the Awards, and we look forward to meeting you there.

As previous attendees know, the UKWA Awards winners are announced on the day with all the usual suspense, excitement and glamour you would expect from a top industry event, and posted afterwards on our website. Meanwhile you can read in full detail about the shortlisted finalists in the UKWA Awards Supplement in this issue.

Even if it’s not your turn this time to win an UKWA Award, you can still turn your warehouse into a winner by reading our special features in these pages. ‘Warehouse Lighting’ looks at smart lighting solutions for today’s warehouses. ‘Order Picking’ takes in pickers, pick to light and voice picking. And don’t miss our other articles on products, equipment and solutions.

As featured on our front page the Rack Group has not only received its share of accolades over the years for its continuous development of pallet racking products and services, but it has also played a major role in setting the benchmark for other companies’ employees to excel in working with this equipment, in what can become a dangerous environment without proper training.

The Rack Group is co-developer and creator of the industry’s first and still only National Vocation Qualification for the Installation, Maintenance and Inspection of Industrial Storage Equipment. The high level of training Rack Group staff members receive would not be possible without Rack Training Ltd, a Rack Group subsidiary which provides bespoke training courses for the industry. Rack Training’s courses ensure employees fully understand the tasks they carry out as part of their job and how this is reflected in safe working procedures.
