In UK business the sentiment is up-tempo to match the weather. As we went to press, construction was the latest part of British industry reporting an improving economy and better business confidence. The latest figures from this key sector show the strongest growth in four months in home building, commercial and civil engineering. All of which is good news for the warehouse and logistics industry, the people relied upon to deliver the goods where they are needed.

With the economy on the up and business out there to be won, don’t put off any longer investing in making your operation more competitive. In this issue we have features to inform your purchase decisions on Doors & Curtains, including industrial doors, curtains and roller-shutters, and Conveying & Sortation, covering automated materials handling equipment and systems, robotics and automated guided vehicles.

Warehouse operations face intense pressure to maximise productivity and efficiency. But this must never compromise safety and care for workers. The message on our front cover from the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association is that safe storage design makes commercial sense as well as being essential, and SEMA are the people to help you reap the benefits.

SEMA’s Design Code for Adjustable Pallet Racking had a major upgrade in 2014 and a revised code published so racking designers and manufacturers can test and analyse their products to a modern code without anticipating any further changes to the mathematics or testing protocols. In another major move, SEMA’s new Code of Practice for the Design and Use of Rack Protection is believed to be a world first.

The bottom line for storage equipment end users is, when it comes to upgrading your racking, there’s no need to get too bogged down in technical matters, as you can leave compliance to SEMA’s expert members who supply the kit. SEMA member companies commit to implementing all SEMA’s codes of practice, which automatically deliver on financial ROI, effective storage and safety.
