Welcome to the Warehouse & Logistics News Review of The Year 2014, our annual look at the ‘Best of the Best’ in the business, brought to you by the number one title for the industry.

READ THE Review of the Year ISSUE

As another eventful year ends we look in depth at the companies making the news, supported by overviews from the leading trade associations. Innovation and excellence continue to drive warehousing and logistics, and we showcase the manufacturers and service providers leading the various sectors.

James Clark, Secretary General of BITA, says 2014 has been “a very positive year for the industry,” with forklift sales, a key barometer of Britain’s business health, close to pre-recession levels. Steve Agg, CEO of CILT, says the warehouse and logistics industry is “thriving in the spotlight,” with the development of Omni-channel retailing and increased customer demand over the last twelve months.
The message from the Review is clear: our economy is its strongest since 2007, positively booming compared to various Eurozone countries, and Britain is once again a great place to do business. More companies are opening, more people are working and output is increasing. Paul Till, Head of National Business Space at Lasalle Investment Management, spoke in our recent Property Focus of demand for logistics property rising rapidly and long vacant stock in the regions being re-let. Warehouse & Logistics News was official media partner to leading trade shows Logistics@Foodex, Multimodal and Lux Live, and can vouch that these were all well attended and a great success for all concerned.

So where will the next growth come from? Grocery retailing has always been a big spender on ‘W&L’. As the UK becomes more federal, the regions are set to take on increased autonomy, attracting inward investment and stimulating business. Looking wider still, the global logistics market is growing exponentially, with increased emphasis on traceability and multi-nationals ‘re-shoring’ local operations as parts of the world become unstable.

Going into 2015 Warehouse & Logistics News will continue to lead as the industry’s only fortnightly title, bringing you the latest news, big stories and detailed reports on the key topics. Happy reading, and here’s to another successful year to come!
