For businesses to grow and be sustainable, ensuring there’s a robust supply chain strategy in place is crucial. Yet many supply chain managers have had no formal training.
Now a three day residential programme, Emerging Integrated Supply Chain Strategies and New Constructs of Value, aims to address this and help businesses to approach their supply chain management more strategically. The programme is aimed at business leaders and supply chain managers looking to increase their knowledge and capability. Developed by Leeds University Business School’s Centre for Operations and Supply Chain Research (COSCR) together with the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University the programme will run from 3rd to 5th February 2014.
For Professor Chee Wong, Director of the COSCR, the growing influence of supply chain management on business performance requires the sophisticated and informed approaches that this programme offers. “There is a shortage of supply chain expertise not just in the developed world, but globally,” he says. “The COSCR was set up to address this shortfall and give large and small businesses the skills, competencies and confidence to integrate their supply chain functions and ensure long-term sustainability for their companies. We have a suite of training events planned for the business community.”
This first event in the COSCR’s Supply Chain Mastery series is specifically designed for executives, from both SMEs and multi-national companies, responsible for developing and delivering supply chain strategies. Through a series of structured sessions, it will provide procurement, operations, logistics and customer service managers with the tools, in-depth knowledge and skills to apply the latest supply chain practices to their business.
Delivered by leading supply chain experts from the COSCR and the Broad College of Business, the programme will introduce new and emerging supply chain strategies and perspectives that can help increase business resilience and efficiency.
During the programme in February, Dr David Closs, John H. McConnell Chaired Professor of the Department of Supply Chain Management in the Broad College of Business, his colleague Dr David Frayer, Director of Executive Development Programs in the Broad College of Business, and Prof Wong will teach key techniques and emerging approaches to supply chain design and the role, structure and functions of logistics within supply chain management. Their presentations will be coupled with opportunities to share best practice and learn from other participants.
The COSCR is a multi-disciplinary research centre that focuses on developing and disseminating knowledge in operations and supply chain management and advancing managerial practices. It provides a range of educational and research opportunities to policy and decision makers, business managers, consultants, students and academic researchers. Leeds University Business School has also recently formed a strategic relationship with the Broad College of Business that will enable Leeds to build on its current capability and gives the Broad College of Business, which is already top ranked in the US for supply chain management education, a stronger presence in Europe.
