ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems have recently announced a new addition to their Crawford industrial docking portfolio after successful collaboration with the UK’s leading key management specialist, in a bid to prevent extreme dangers surrounding premature vehicle ‘drive-offs’ during loading/unloading.

This collaboration will see the Crawford brand offering a highly topical ‘dock-safe’ product, offering advanced safety and security features for loading bay areas, from early 2014. Further news is expected imminently, but initial results of a pilot scheme for the integrated drive-off prevention system show it has been a hit with users.

Integrating Traka’s patented iFob technology, proven to be the most advanced dock management system on the market, into world renowned Crawford docking and industrial door equipment ensures vehicle keys are safely secured at the traffic office before loading bay doors can be opened.

Drive-off prevention has been a key concern for fleet operators for some time and the integrated system promises to directly tackle the areas of key concern, with vehicle keys securely locked away until bay doors are sealed after loading is fully complete. Results of the pilot survey show users comprehensively rated the system highly for ease of operation and cost efficiency.

The ASSA ABLOY group is the clear global leader in door opening solutions and is renowned for its research and development, being voted the 78th most innovative multinational corporation in the world by Forbes in 2013. The Crawford brand, part of its Entrance Systems division, is the core provider of industrial door and docking solutions for the UK market and, after very strong growth during 2013, is the UK’s largest industrial door and docking solutions specialist.

“Collaborating with our ASSA ABLOY colleagues underlines our commitment to developing cutting-edge technology for industrial loading areas.” said Allan Stockdale, Sales Director of ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, “by providing a proven key management system, which isolates trailers, we’re undoubtedly contributing to safer site operations”. The system is said to help control and restrict access, improve security and generate comprehensive usage statistics and audit trails for management.

In addition to directly addressing safety in loading areas during goods-in/out processes, the system delivers a strong solution for shunting and parked trailers; addressing access, security and safety. Fleet operators can refer to ‘live’ statistics for greater insight into driver habits, goods-in operations and processing times, all the while guaranteeing safety in ever-dangerous loading areas.

Describing the goods-in process as simple, sequential and inescapable, the fool-proof arrangement limits opportunities for dangerous mistakes to be made. Intelligent iFob technology is designed to offer flexibility to operators and management, with unique coding for each individual user enabling access restriction on an operative-by-operative basis. Electronically updated every 24 hours, lost or stolen fobs are decoded quickly, preventing security breaches. The management system itself is completely secure, with only authorised personnel able to code and access fobs for distribution to operatives and drivers.

Suitable for either new projects or retro-fit at existing premises, appointments are available with local Crawford product experts to discuss.
