Enjoying a year of steady growth, SSI Schaefer continues to go from strength to strength while retaining its position as the world’s largest supplier of storage and materials handling systems.

LogiMatThe UK subsidiary, based in Andover with a sales and projects office in the Midlands, has maintained its commitment to supporting its customer base through an active recruitment program – principally of skilled, technical support and maintenance staff – but also of IT personnel. The ability of the company to offer full SAP integration from this year, in conjunction with its already well-established Warehouse Management and Control Systems, is also a reflection of its expanding product portfolio in 2013.

New automation products continue to be developed alongside the more traditional static storage systems of modular and multi-tier shelving, adjustable pallet racking and plastic containers, for which the company has long been recognised. The launch of a new matrix-based high density tote storage system, which is automatically accessed by shuttles, has been met with a raft of orders from distribution centre operators in the retail consumables and general merchandise sectors, while SSI Schaefer continues to concentrate its development expertise on further innovative space-saving systems.

Another product relatively new to the Schaefer portfolio is the low-cost rack and pinion-based LogiMat vertical lift machine which, by occupying a small footprint, maximises the use of vertical height to store and retrieve products and this is rapidly finding favour with operators who store and pick small parts and components.

This year the company has sold systems into the automotive, supermarket, pharmaceutical and cold store and chilled sectors while continuing to make inroads into the hanging garment storage and sortation market after recent acquisitions in mainland Europe.

In 2014 SSI Schaefer will continue to build on its strength as a single source supplier, focusing on what it refers to as ‘combi projects’, which combine product elements from the full spectrum of its portfolio of static storage and automated systems. Making the most efficient use of available space while offering advice on related issues as diverse as picking regimes, ergonomics and storage system safety will also be part of the agenda for the forthcoming year.
