Prompted by the accession of a growing number of Central and Eastern European economies to the Single European Market, the challenges and opportunities for the palletised distribution industry have taken a shift in focus over the past couple of years.

The distribution market in general is becoming increasingly more globalised, and the pallet networks have recognised the potential for growth within Europe. As a result, they have evolved their services to provide a value added offer to customers seeking both to distribute product across continental Europe and to bring in product from the Eurozone.

Palletline was ideally placed to develop its European service. The organisation’s significant recent investment in technology had already successfully opened the doors to the provision of wider 3PL and freight exchange services, both in the UK and into Europe.

The launch this year of Palletline Europe enables customers to benefit from purpose-developed services supported by industry leading track and trace systems, together with processes for instant communication of accurate proof of delivery information, making this the most advanced pan-European network offering on the market today.

The first few weeks of 2011 saw a dramatic upsurge of demand for Palletline’s new European service offering, focusing on the provision of fast, reliable and cost effective pallet distribution services both into and from continental Europe.

This new service links every corner of the Eurozone, with Palletline now able to provide quality services to 30 countries, adding significant value to any supply chain. Alongside popular destinations including France, Spain, Germany and Scandinavia, Palletline Europe also provides solutions for more distant locations such as Slovenia and Lithuania. From single pallets to Paris through to a pallet in Romania requiring collection and delivery back to the UK, Palletline Europe offers fast and reliable services, with consignments tracked throughout their journeys.

Palletline’s European service promises no hidden costs in the shape of surcharges, currency or fuel fluctuations. In addition, the company has developed a unique instant quote system to ensure customers are provided with fast and accurate pricing information. Designed to ensure maximum value for customers, the system automatically calculating the optimum specification based on per pallet, volumetric or loading metre parameters to match the most competitive quote to each individual consignment.

The launch of Palletline Europe is the result of more than two years of market research, planning and systems development, carried out working in close association with Palletline Member Companies DSV, C S Ellis (Group) Ltd and Europa Worldwide Logistics, all of whom have well-established knowledge and experience of the challenges presented by European distribution.

Providing a tailored service for both hauliers and end users, and optimising the benefits of Palletline’s extensive Member Company network, the European service also makes full use of subsidiary company Palletline London as the organisation’s European ‘gateway’. This has given European hauliers the option of much more cost efficient solutions, accessing the Palletline network via this conveniently located gateway rather than use their own vehicles for small consignment deliveries across the UK.

“Our objective was to provide Palletline customers with affordable and reliable links into Europe, closing the loop and enabling us to provide a comprehensive service for palletised freight,” explained Managing Director Kevin Buchanan. “Operating through our established Member Company system, utilising our own IT systems, we are able to provide assurances on service quality and performance.”

Accessible to business and commerce across the UK and Ireland via the established Member Company network, the new service is already set to exceed initial estimates in terms of pallet volumes.
