mpg-marathon.jpgA team of Home Delivery Network Limited (HDNL) staff were runners up in the commercial vehicle section of the MPG Marathon, the UK’s premier economy driving event. The team finished in third position in the Class 7 section race with an impressive mpg figure of 44.54. Les Stiff and Bob Stewart, both Accident Prevention and Reduction Managers for HDNL and advanced drivers, completed the race in a Vauxhall Movano van.
Les said: “Fuel savings are one of HDNL’s key objectives for this year and in the current climate efficient driving techniques are becoming increasingly more important. The event was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the fuel savings that can be made.

“We will be cascading the tips we have learnt such as turning off the engine when waiting at traffic lights, to our driver trainers, to ensure we get the best out of our drivers,” said Les.

The MPG Marathon is now in its eighth year and aims to highlight efficient driving techniques as fuel prices continue to rise. The round trip was held over two days and covered over 400 miles beginning and ending in Bristol and working its way through mid-Wales, Macclesfield and Stoke-on-Trent.

Both Les and Bob will be using their experiences in the race to develop a SAFED (Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving) scheme for HDNL. This will form part of the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and developing a relevant, credible and sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility programme at grass roots.
