The intralogistics industry has faced many challenges over the last few years. Ecommerce growth, Brexit, the global pandemic and now the Russian invasion of Ukraine, have all created new logistical issues and those in the industry have had to adapt their operations to the ever-changing landscape.

As the new single voice for the British material handling industry, UKMHA (formerly FLTA & BITA) have been supporting our members with advice and information as each new challenge arises. The common thread throughout is our commitment to safety. As companies find themselves in new situations and often have to make adjustments rapidly, it is vital that safety is never compromised.
There are a number of risks associated with rapid change. Increasing the workforce with permanent or temporary staff, extending operational hours, installing new equipment, expanding existing premises or changing location can all pose dangers if health and safety is not properly implemented. One vital, yet often overlooked, aspect of safety is adequate training.
As companies continue to invest in new material handling equipment, storage solutions and technology, it is imperative that operators are given adequate training to ensure they are familiar with the work area and know how to use equipment safely. Sometimes it is assumed that an operator who has been given basic training on a particular piece of equipment will be able to safely transfer those skills to different equipment, and will, somehow, intuitively know the intricacies of different sites and tasks. Unfortunately, this can have serious consequences, which is why UKMHA have chosen this area to focus on for National Forklift Safety Day in conjunction with the Safety Convention on 14th June.
With the continued development of intralogistics solutions and new market challenges driven by global events, it is important to understand what these are and how they will impact the industry. LogiMAT provides the opportunity to network, discover the latest industry innovations and hear from leading industry experts. With exhibitors from around the world, the show promises to deliver a comprehensive market overview and knowledge-transfer. The unique infrastructure and clear segmentation of the exhibition sections ensure all participants get the inside track on intralogistics. The live, hand-on demonstrations act as a valuable decision-making tool. This is set against a backdrop of industry speakers offering the latest insights on the current and future market.
It is clear that the industry will continue to face new challenges, but emerging technologies will help address some of these by delivering efficiencies. UKMHA will continue to update our membership on legislation, best-practice and Health & Safety associated with latest developments.
