Managed by Associated British Ports (ABP), which is the UK’s largest and leading ports group, Newport is situated in a prime location offering deep water births and a diverse range of cargo handling capabilities.

ABP, which has invested significantly to develop the port to expand facilities for the growing amount of imports and exports, turned to De Boer to provide the ideal solution when additional warehouse space was required.

The structure, which stands six metres high at the eaves, has been positioned on the quay side allowing easy access for fork-lift drivers unloading cargo from ships. It is completely enclosed with entrance ramps and eight-metre wide sliding doors to allow fork-lift truck access.

A 12-strong crew from Brackley-based De Boer, including four electricians, assembled the structure with cranes and installed lighting, power distribution and a fire alarm.

Mark Elliott, ABP Project Manager, said: “De Boer provided a superb package from start to finish. A dedicated and well project-managed site team erected the shed on pre-constructed foundations efficiently, thus providing speedy and cost-effective storage for non-bulk cargoes.”

Apart from bulk goods storage, All Weather Halls have been used as aircraft hangars, car showrooms, recycling facilities, sports halls, equestrian centres and even temporary prisons.

Frame works are manufactured from hot dipped galvanised steel and last a lifetime.
