Due to the continued demand for energy efficient lighting and Konect Electricals’ commitment to green technology, the business is pleased to announce the expansion of its lighting division. Konect’s portfolio of successful projects, the current order book and the service delivered to their clients has necessitated the re-brand and the expansion of the specialist lighting division, known as Ozone Lighting Solutions.
Until fairly recent years, lighting was dominated by incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes however due to the cost and efficiency of conventional lighting coming under scrutiny and a range of light fittings being phased out, more purchasers are becoming aware that alternative technologies are required.
LED lights are being used increasingly in all building types due to their proven energy savings and advantages when weighed up against conventional lighting. Many LED applications can reduce power consumption by up to 80% when running from mains power, and LED lights can also run effectively from solar and wind energy with minimal power. LED light fittings possess a long operational life and easily exceed 50,000 hours. They are practically service-free and seldom fail as they contain no filaments which burn or break out, reducing the long term cost of ownership. Rapid improvements in LED technology and the falling purchase costs are also assisting with the initial cost outlay.
Other benefits include a reduction in heat pollution due to their low operating temperatures and minimal light pollution, as light output is only directed to where it is required. Ergonomically, LED’s can eliminate the symptoms of eyestrain which can be developed from inefficient lighting in the workplace, thus avoiding adverse productivity. LED lighting is also environmentally and ecologically friendly as LED’s contain no poisonous elements such as mercury or other gases.
Induction lighting systems have been around for many years however they are not as widely recognised as LED lights. Induction technology is similar to the fluorescent lighting technology however it utilises a magnetic field to excite a small amount of mercury contained within. This does pose a small environmental drawback and means responsible recycling is required, however, they can be more efficient than LED lights with an operating lifespan of around 90,000 hours – warranting minimal maintenance.
Induction lighting products have other superior characteristics including instant start, flicker-free, low operating temperatures, making them suitable for use in all types of high level hard to reach areas and external vicinities. The latest fluorescent lamp offers very similar benefits and provides brilliant homogenous lumen output across the ceiling. The fluorescent lamp is still being installed across the UK and, together with energy saving controls, can provide massive payback solutions to all building types. The latest high frequency, low energy T5 lamp will also create an environment that is aesthetically pleasing and promote a feeling of wellbeing in any workplace.
Occupancy detectors (which use infrared or ultrasonic technology) to detect movement and assess the presence of natural light can be fitted to turn lights on when people enter a space and turn them off when a space is unoccupied. Automated controls decide if the luminaire needs to be energised or dimmed, achieving even greater savings by further increasing lamp life and reducing maintenance costs. These types of controls are typically used in just about any area where a varied level of occupancy is expected or where natural lighting levels are sought such as warehouses, offices, corridors, storerooms and WC facilities.
Managing Director, Karl Oultram said “We are proud to deliver outstanding low energy lighting products at the best possible prices. We have the skills, knowledge and professionalism to be able to offer whatever service our clients require – whether it is a bespoke design package, supplying their light fittings or a full design, installation and maintenance service. We are excited about the launch of our new website and look forward to showcasing the latest products on the market under the new brand name”.
