SEMA Distributor Group Chairman Jonathan Bennett reports on the success of the SDG’s quality assurance scheme which benchmarks the standards you should expect as a given!
Back in February, SEMA Distributor Group (SDG) members opened their company doors to be independently audited on 25 industry-specific, quality measures in a drive raise standards, standardise practices, identify and share best practice and add value. The audit, conducted by external quality assurance company QCS International, is complete and we’re duly proud of our proven reputations and workplace integrity.
Although the results aren’t meant to form a league table, I was impressed to learn that the highest score was 98% and the average score made the 80s! Regulations and standards change so the audit will be repeated every three years. Scrutiny was meant to be robust, some members needed to develop improvement plans and a couple have dropped out.
But that’s good. The SDG audit has now established clear blue water between members and the rank and file. So when you want to check on a storage firm’s quality credentials, the leg work has been done for you. With an SDG member, the correct health and safety standards are in place, they use only trained labour, storage is correctly designed and the firm carries appropriate insurance.
Now the audit is complete, we are ready to actively recruit new members who will need to be assessed before their membership can be formalised. We’re currently reviewing a number of applications and welcome more of the right calibre.
