Jungheinrich, the German-based intralogistics service and solution provider, manufactures and supplies forklift trucks in its capacity as a general contractor for complete logistics systems.

Jungheinrich invited W&LN to Munich for a special preview of the new hydrodynamic torque converter drive trucks in its DFG/TFG 316-320 and DFG/TFG 425-435 ranges of IC trucks. Made at Jungheinrich’s Moosburg production plant, the new trucks can handle loads up to 3,500kg with stacking heights of 7.5 metres and are reliable and rugged in high temperatures and adverse conditions, delivering above-average throughput rates with low fuel consumption.

The new trucks are powered with Kubota industrial engines, tried and tested worldwide in heavy-duty construction machinery to deliver high torque at low revs. The trucks boast high-grade, extremely durable, long-life components, ideally suited for extreme, tough operations in different climate zones.

Jungheinrich’s engineering developments to their new trucks’ core components include a number of innovations to the mast, chassis and steering axle. The counterweight on the new stacker is an integral part of the loadbearing chassis, while the steering axle is integrated in the counterweight. According to the company this translates into high dynamic driving stability with no need for stabilisers and ensures outstanding safety characteristics, while stationary and on the move.

The new trucks’ proprietary transmission shaft features an integrated non-wear wet multi-disc brake, promising reduced service costs compared with standard drum brakes. The encapsulated design means harsh external conditions will not affect the brakes and the high-performance cooling system functions fully even in high ambient temperatures. The all-aluminium radiator makes the torque converters highly suitable for very hot settings, protecting them from dust and other harmful environmental factors.

Thanks to the high-grade rugged components, servicing is also fast, easy and economic, requiring minimum technical expertise. This guarantees high truck availability and reduces interruption. The L-shaped engine bonnet tilts almost 90 degrees and the quick-release side panels provide excellent access to the engine.

Operator comfort is also high priority in Jungheinrich’s new trucks. The slim steering column offers more leg room, and the seat adjusts to allow healthy, fatigue-free operation. The new model ranges feature an electric parking brake as standard, doing away with the previous handbrake lever in the cab. The operator simply presses a button to activate the brake. Finally, the new lifting mast design ensures improved view of the payload, forks and general working area, and good all-round visibility.

Global spare parts centre now on stream

On the second day of the visit Warehouse & Logistics News also visited Jungheinrich’s new global spare parts centre in Kaltenkirchen, north of Hamburg, which opened last September and is now fully operational. In its capacity as a general contractor for complete logistics systems, Jungheinrich completely designed and built the central warehouse, based on a new logistics concept featuring optimised spare parts management. Completed at a cost of 35 million euros, the new global spare parts centre is the foundation for fulfilling future market requirements, including 24/7 deliverability and faster, more efficient global spare parts logistics.

Ergonomie_4The new facility features 20,000 square metres of storage space including a 31-metre tall high-rack warehouse and with over 65,000 warehouse items stored in 110,000 storage slots. The warehouse has an output of up to 1,000 list items per hour, enabling it to deliver spare parts to three different time zones, America, Central Europe and Asia. It means Jungheinrich is setting a new standard in spare parts logistics, consolidating its competitive advantage in the spare parts business and expanding spare parts availability rate to over 98 percent for its globally active clients.

Jungheinrich’s new truck workstations put driver first

Jungheinrich is putting its warehouse and system trucks’ operators’ wellbeing first with a range of completely redesigned and reengineered driver workstation innovations. Due to be presented at CeMAT 2014, these new developments are already integrated in the latest Jungheinrich hydrostatic drive trucks, as well as the Series 4 and Series 5 electric counterbalance trucks.

The long list of innovations includes the new Duo Pilot control unit, integrated in the multi-adjustable armrest, giving the driver precise and responsive control of truck operations. Next, the new compact mast further improves all-round visibility, with chains and hoses now inside the uprights. A completely new interactive driver dialogue system with a multi-function display keeps the driver informed in real time on the status of all situation relevant details. The control panel features freely assignable function keys, for example to activate optional modules such as driver assistance systems. And there’s a generous storage compartment under the arm cushion and a USB port as a power source for recharging smart phones.

Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is an intralogistics service and solution provider with manufacturing operations, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, logistics systems, services and advice. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
