abc_0059.jpgUseful Structures have recently designed and installed a temporary warehouse for DSV Road Ltd at their site in Purfleet, Essex. The objective was to supply a large clear span structure to compliment the existing facilities on site and to provide a safe, protected storage and distribution environment for increasing quantities of large palletized goods.

Tim Chambers, project manager at Useful Structures explained “There were several challenges to overcome with this project, in particular the exposed and sloping site required a bespoke approach to the design and build in order to achieve structural stability and a water resistant perimeter at ground level.”

The 25m x 35m x 6m building was however ready for use within just 8 weeks from the time of the order. The building complies with BS6399 Part II for wind and snow loadings, the same calculation code as is required for brick and mortar structures, and can be relocated to a new site if and when necessary.

Useful Structures increasingly see customers fall into the trap of selecting cut price engineering in temporary structures without realizing the full implications both for corporate manslaughter and insurance consequences.

Tim continues “We are particularly pleased to be associated with such a highly respected market leader as DSV. In particular this client fully understood the implications of our approach to engineering calculations rather than opting for a cheap alternative without any proper structural accreditation.”

David Pentecost, branch manager at DSV said “DSV have been extremely satisfied with the purchase from Useful Structures, the building has given us much more flexibility in our daily operations.”

“The fact that the structure can be put up and be operational so quickly was a massive bonus to us as time was a critical factor in our decision making process.”

Useful Structures are based in Warwickshire and supply rellocatable marketing suites, education and office facilities, sports halls and warehousing.
