Jon Lewis, Managing Director at John Scott Works Ltd speaks to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What are your best-known products/solutions/services?
John Scott Works is best known for designing, manufacturing, and installing bespoke, cold-formed mezzanine solutions for customers throughout the United Kingdom. Every project is tailored to meet the customer’s operational requirements, whether that’s creating additional storage capacity, supporting automation systems, increasing production space, or improving overall facility efficiency.
What sets us apart is our ability to manage the entire process in-house, from initial consultation and 3D design through to manufacturing and installation, providing customers with a single point of contact throughout the project lifecycle. As part of Profielnorm Group (PRN Group), John Scott Works combines local market expertise and customer support with the strength, and resources of a leading international organisation.
Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fastest?
We work across a diverse range of sectors, including logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, self-storage, retail, leisure, and e-commerce. Our mezzanine solutions are fully bespoke, we can tailor each project to meet the specific operational requirements of different industries.
In recent years, we have seen particularly strong growth in the 3PL, automation, and self-storage sectors. Many businesses are looking to increase capacity without relocating to larger premises. Mezzanine floors provide a practical and cost-effective solution by unlocking unused vertical space within existing buildings.
What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?
One of the most significant trends we are seeing is the increasing demand for faster project delivery and greater supply chain certainty. Customers want trusted partners who can respond quickly whilst maintaining high standards of quality and service.
At the same time, many organisations are investing in automation and seeking smarter ways to maximise their existing facilities. This requires mezzanine solutions that can be integrated into complex operational environments and tailored to specific workflows.
Our response is simple: work closely with our customers whilst continuing to invest in manufacturing capability, engineering expertise, and local market knowledge. Customers increasingly want partners who understand their business and operational challenges. Being part of PRN Group allows us to combine local understanding with international capability.
How does business in 2026 compare to previous years? What’s your strategy for succeeding in the current climate?
Whilst market conditions remain competitive, demand for space optimisation continues to be strong. Businesses are under increasing pressure to improve efficiency, maximise capacity, and make better use of their existing facilities.
Our strategy is focused on long-term value rather than short-term reactions. We continue to invest in people, manufacturing capabilities, and customer relationships, ensuring that we remain a trusted partner for businesses planning for future growth. By working closely with customers, we can provide solutions that deliver lasting value.
What’s the latest news from your company?
One of the most exciting developments for the business is the continued expansion of Profielnorm Group, including the growth of Profielnorm USA and the opening of its manufacturing facility in Plainwell, Michigan. This investment represents an important milestone in the Group’s long-term growth strategy and reflects our commitment to manufacturing closer to our customers. By increasing production capacity, we are creating a more resilient supply chain and supporting customers across multiple markets.
For John Scott Works, this investment reflects a wider Group strategy: manufacturing closer to customers and supporting local markets with local expertise. Whilst our focus remains firmly on the UK market, being part of an international organisation enables us to share knowledge, strengthen supply chains, and support customers with confidence.
Are you investing in staff training and skills development?
Absolutely. As our business continues to grow, attracting, developing, and retaining skilled people remains essential to delivering the quality and service our customers expect.
We continue to invest in training and professional development across all areas of the business, ensuring our teams have the skills, knowledge and expertise to support customers both now and in the future.
“Our ambition is simple: to remain the UK’s most trusted mezzanine partner by combining local expertise, engineering excellence, and the strength of the wider Profielnorm Group. By staying close to our customers and investing in our people and manufacturing capabilities, we help businesses make better use of their space and support long-term success.”
