Dale Paterson, Managing Director at Exporta talks to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What does your role involve on a day-to-day basis?
As Managing Director, my primary responsibility is to ensure alignment between our three key stakeholder groups: our customers, our team and our shareholders. On a daily basis, this involves reviewing performance reports, customer feedback and operational insights, and then directing time and resources to the areas that will have the greatest impact. Ultimately, my role is about maintaining balance while driving sustainable, long term value across the business.
How would you explain the Exporta Culture?
Exporta’s culture is built around family values, teamwork and doing things properly. We place a strong emphasis on collaboration and pride ourselves on being a business that is always striving to improve. Continuous improvement is embedded in our mindset — not just in the products we offer, but in the way we work with each other and with our customers.
How does this culture assist your clients’ requirements?
Because of this culture, our customers can be confident that we are always working to identify the most effective solution for their current and future needs. We don’t offer a one size fits all approach; instead, we take the time to understand individual requirements and continuously refine our solutions to deliver the best possible outcomes.
Do you have direct contact with customers, and get involved developing solutions?
Very much so. Over the past six months, I have been on a structured programme of customer visits, spending time listening to feedback — both positive and constructive. This firsthand insight enables us to work collaboratively as a team to implement improvements and do more of what genuinely benefits our customers.
Tell us how Exporta are growing in the UK
Our growth strategy remains strong. For the current year, our target is to achieve a minimum of double digit growth, and we are currently on track to deliver this. Growth is being driven by a combination of customer acquisition and the expansion of our product range to meet evolving market demands.
What makes Exporta unique in your industry?
Our slogan, “Beyond the Box”, truly defines how we operate. It reflects our commitment to going above and beyond for our customers — from the very first conversation through to final delivery. We focus on problem solving and partnership, ensuring each solution is tailored, practical and commercially effective.
What solutions do you offer customers?
We provide more efficient, higher quality and cost effective ways to protect goods during storage and transportation. Our returnable transit packaging solutions help customers improve operational efficiency while reducing damage and long term costs.
What sectors do these clients work in?
The majority of our customers operate within the manufacturing sector, producing many of the everyday goods that households rely on. These environments demand robust, repeatable and efficient packaging solutions — an area where Exporta delivers real value.
How can your solutions help?
Our solutions significantly reduce product damage while also enabling a more sustainable and environmentally responsible approach to shipping. By transitioning away from disposable packaging, customers benefit from both operational improvements and reduced environmental impact.
How future-proof and flexible are your solutions?
We remain at the cutting edge of global sourcing, continually introducing the latest innovations in product protection and returnable transit packaging. This ensures our customers have access to flexible, future ready solutions that adapt as their operations evolve.
What new services/solutions are you offering for 2026?
Throughout 2026, we are continuing to expand our product range in line with our customers’ immediate and long term needs. Sustainability, durability and operational efficiency will remain central to all new developments. Our customer service remains industry leading, we are currently rated 4.8 on Trustpilot.
What do you see as the biggest opportunities in the coming year for Exporta?
One of the largest opportunities lies in supporting the market’s growing demand for sustainable, returnable packaging solutions. Businesses are increasingly focused on reducing waste and improving supply chain resilience, and Exporta is well positioned to support this transition.
What are the biggest challenges facing Exporta and your industry?
There is no question that ongoing geopolitical events are adding pressure to costs and global shipping networks. However, our team is well prepared to manage these challenges and, where possible, absorb or mitigate their impact in order to protect our customers.
Tell us about a recent project Exporta were involved with.
We recently worked closely with a customer to design and implement consistently sized metal cages to replace irregular wooden pallets that were underperforming within an AGV system. The project has been a great success, improving automation performance and overall efficiency.
Do you cover the whole of the UK?
Yes — we supply customers across the entire UK efficiently, while also supporting operations throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
