Hörmann UK has introduced its Automatic Wheel-Blocking system (AWB), delivering a new benchmark in loading bay safety for warehouse and logistics operations. Engineered to eliminate the risks associated with premature vehicle departure and ‘vehicle creep’ during loading and unloading, the AWB automatically detects a reversing vehicle and securely blocks the rear wheel, preventing any unintended movement and significantly reducing the potential for human error.

One of the most versatile automated vehicle restraint systems on the market, the Hörmann AWB is suitable for all vehicle types, from small delivery vans through to large articulated lorries. Designed for the demanding environments typical of busy loading bays, the system features a rugged construction, with all hydraulic and electronic components protected within a durable galvanised housing that guards against dirt, impact and adverse weather conditions.
Offering a working range of 2,825mm and a blocking height of 300mm, the system avoids any risk of collision with mudguards or vehicle trim. It also accommodates site irregularities, with height adjustment of up to 50mm, and is available in left- or right-handed versions. Installation is straightforward and efficient, requiring only a minimal number of anchor points.
Once the vehicle is correctly positioned at the dock, the integrated wheel guide is activated from inside the building at the push of a button. The driver remains in the cab, with a clear warning light and traffic-light system indicating when it is safe to depart. The intuitive Hörmann AWB controller can operate as a standalone solution or be seamlessly integrated into other Hörmann control systems, while mobile data connectivity allows for simple system updates and diagnostics.
Phil Thorpe, Industrial Division Manager at Hörmann UK, said: “The AWB from Hörmann is exactly what the market expects – a robust, well-engineered and highly practical solution to a problem frequently encountered during loading operations. Suitable for all types of warehousing and logistics facilities, this system will play a key role in improving workplace safety, reducing accidents and protecting both loading operatives and drivers in what can be a high-risk area.
“The AWB has been designed with ease of installation, operation and maintenance in mind, enabling customers to maximise loading efficiency while keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.”
