The family-owned business, which operates seven food retail and hospitality brands in the Andalusia and Extremadura regions, is investing in a robotic order fulfilment system at its distribution centre in Guillena. Cimcorp’s automation and intelligent software will ensure perishable goods move swiftly through the distribution centre, reducing waste and maximising freshness.

Martín Alba, Logistics and Transport Director at Grupo MAS.

“With Cimcorp’s solution, we can prepare goods in 24 hours,” explains Jose Manuel Martín Alba, Logistics and Transport Director for Grupo MAS, “giving us the flexibility and agility to deliver to our more than 200 stores. The system will reduce manual handling, streamline operations and improve stock control, enabling our team to focus on higher-value tasks while enjoying a safer and more structured work environment.”

Facing challenges including limited space, rising logistics costs and increasing demand for efficiency, Grupo MAS sought a solution that would optimise its fresh fruit distribution without compromising employee well-being. Cimcorp’s proven automation will accelerate intralogistics at the Guillena DC, which supplies products to the company’s MAS, MAS&GO and Cash Fresh supermarkets. The facility operates 24 hours a day with strict temperature, hygiene and traceability protocols to guarantee food quality and safety. The new solution features automatic order picking by Cimcorp’s gantry-mounted robots, with all material flows and dispatch planning optimised by Cimcorp’s proven warehouse control software (WCS).

Increased product availability

By streamlining processes, increasing productivity and boosting accuracy, the automation will help Grupo MAS ensure that fresh fruit is always available in stores before they open – with full product availability across all SKUs – thereby enhancing the customer experience. “Customers expect fresh products at all times,” says Martín Alba, “and this solution ensures we meet those expectations. By accelerating order fulfilment and improving accuracy, we can deliver the right products at the right time – every time.”

Freshness is paramount

Fresh produce lies at the heart of Grupo MAS’ business; the company selects its fresh produce at source to prioritise seasonal products and ensure exceptional quality. The speed of robotic fulfilment ensures fresh produce moves quickly through the supply chain. This means the products reach customers in peak condition and have a longer shelf life in the consumer’s home, further enhancing the customer experience.

Improved warehouse well-being

The automation not only reduces manual handling but, importantly, eliminates heavy lifting. Crates of fresh produce can weigh over 25 kilos, so handling such heavy crates is very strenuous work, with the potential for strains and other injuries. The automation supports Grupo MAS’ employees with a safer work environment.

Sustainability gains

Sustainability is a key pillar of Grupo MAS’ business strategy. By leveraging automation – which enables improved inventory control – the company will significantly reduce food waste and shrinkage. “With Cimcorp’s technology,” says Martín Alba, “we can reduce our environmental impact by optimising logistics, minimising waste and supporting local farmers who supply fresh, seasonal produce to our stores.”

Through its partnership with Cimcorp, Grupo MAS is setting a benchmark in fresh food distribution, securing faster deliveries, smarter operations and less waste.
