MiTek will be presenting an even wider product range at this year’s LogiMAT. “We will present both the hybrid construction – made of hot-rolled and cold-formed steel – and the purely cold-formed version of our mezzanine solutions,” explains Bart Pulles, Operations and Sales Manager at MiTek and responsible for the European mezzanine business. “Visitors will be able to experience our solutions on our stand, as well as chat to our mezzanine experts.”
The fact that MiTek has both mezzanine designs in its range and can therefore respond flexibly to a wide range of customer requirements proves a unique selling point. Certain projects are suitable for using both designs in different areas of a single site. Demand for this combined approach has increased significantly since MiTek launched its cold-formed solution at last year’s LogiMAT. “For example,” says Bart Pulles, “we are currently implementing a mezzanine project with one of the leading system integrators in Germany where we are using the hybrid design for an AutoStore system, due to its high load capacity, while the cold-formed design is used for work and service platforms.” The combination of hybrid and cold-formed mezzanines can be the perfect solution, especially for large logistics projects. “The technical requirements here are often very different,” explains Bart Pulles. “Our mezzanine floors are tailor-made and designed to be economical. In this way, we can offer the right mezzanine for any application, ensuring there is neither over- nor under-engineering.” An added benefit of the cold-formed steel construction is that it uses less material than its hybrid counterpart, leading to cost savings and improved carbon footprint.
Agility drives growth
Agility is a key strength for MiTek and a major reason for the continued expansion of the business. Through an agile supply chain, with reliable local contractors, MiTek is able to handle projects to a consistent standard anywhere in the world, while also minimising its carbon footprint. “Despite generally difficult market conditions and the decline in willingness to invest,” says Bart Pulles, “we are recording an increase in orders.” MiTek managed to grow last year, particularly in Europe. In addition to the expanded product range, another factor for success was the strengthening of the German team during 2023. And in the UK, the MiTek team recently moved into larger premises to facilitate growth.
Opportunity markets
MiTek has noticed a change in the distribution of demand across different industries and countries. “Demand from e-commerce fell last year,” explains Bart Pulles, “while demand from traditional retail, such as the fashion and food sectors, grew.” Third-party logistics providers also showed increasing interest. Growth for MiTek has been particularly strong in continental Europe and the Middle East recently. In addition to the traditional central European markets, MiTek particularly sees the Baltic states and Southern Europe as promising. In the UK, MiTek remains the number one mezzanine supplier, keeping the top position for the eighth consecutive year, according to leading industry analyst, Plimsoll.
