We have finally made it through the bleak winter. As we reach March, things start to look a little brighter. The weather will soon warm up, the evenings are now lighter, and we can start to look forward to the joys of spring, writes Dan Starnes, Sales Director at goplasticpallets.com.

This time of year is also associated with the traditional “spring clean”. Sorting through the cupboard under the stairs, the loft and the garden shed – and finally having the courage to throw away those items you just couldn’t part with before – not only helps to declutter your home, but also the mind (as they say!).

From the conversations we have with our customers, this process can also be extended to where you work. Irrelevant paperwork, old notebooks from pre-Covid times, and those out-of-date business cards can all be binned, but it’s not just the desk or office that need to be cleansed. For logistics managers and supply chain professionals, it is also the perfect time to re-organise and optimise your warehouse space.

Of course, logistics firms, fulfilment houses and businesses operating their own facilities should be continually studying warehouse performance to assess how organised their premises are and how best that space can be utilised. Optimising the flow of goods in and out, while at the same time making the best use of rack space, is essential for profitability and success. A tidy warehouse has many benefits. It’s safer, but also, a well-ordered warehouse saves time and money and boosts productivity. On the other hand, a cluttered and disorganised warehouse hinders the efficiency of workers and poses safety risks.

At goplasticpallets.com, we are constantly working with our trusted clients to help them achieve their goals. As you’d expect, when you read our company name, many industry professionals closely associate us with pallets, but, in this respect, it is our comprehensive range of boxes that come to the fore.

Our range of Euro plastic boxes is designed for exactly this sort of reset. They bring structure back to picking lines, benches, and shelving where loose components, items and products often build up over time. With standardised footprints, they stack neatly, travel cleanly through the warehouse, and protect goods properly during internal moves between storage, production and dispatch.

These boxes are built for daily use in busy environments. Smooth internal walls make cleaning straightforward, which matters in food, pharma and manufacturing environments. Meanwhile, the design of these boxes focuses on stacking strength, so loads stay stable. Empty boxes stack tightly, and full boxes make better use of shelf height. We have a wide range of sizes, features and colours available. It’s a simple change, but it is one that makes a noticeable difference to how tidy, safe, and workable a warehouse feels once the spring clear-out is done and dusted.

For sites running automation, container choice is even more important. As the exclusive UK supplier of GoSmartEuro containers, we support operations that rely on consistency, strength and clean movement through conveyors and automated systems. These containers use smooth external walls and reinforced solid bases, so they track reliably through systems and stand up to repeat handling without distortion. We have four height options, each with a 600x400mm footprint, which keeps layouts simple and predictable. This level of choice and flexibility allows teams to match container depth to product type rather than being restricted to one size. The result is fewer jams, less manual intervention, and a cleaner, more controlled flow across the operation.

Finally, I wanted to talk boxes, but this time on a larger scale. Our folding large containers and sleeve packs are very separate to our Euro boxes, but they play a significant role in warehouse organisation – especially in terms of space optimisation, which is only growing in importance as the cost of warehouse space continues to rise.

We began to add space-optimising pallet boxes to our range in 2016, and they have seen a steady increase in popularity, which has only accelerated over the last couple of years. In fact, sales of folding large containers, such as the GoFLC 980 (a 1200 x 1000 x 980mm box that holds 847 litres but has a folded height of just 317mm when not in use), have jumped by more than 30% year-on-year. In addition, we have also seen a 24% rise in sales of foldable sleeve-packs during 2025. To illustrate its effectiveness, one of our most popular models, the CabCube 1210 9F 2.0, saves approximately 75% storage space when collapsed. Both of these save space when not in use, not just in the warehouse, but also within trailers during return journeys, which helps to cut carbon emissions.

With 2026 in full swing and the traditional financial year drawing to a close, now is the perfect opportunity to consider how your warehouse really works day to day. Spring cleaning isn’t just about clearing space, it’s about putting the right equipment in place, from pallets to boxes to large containers, so that space is used properly, stock moves smoothly, and small inefficiencies don’t become expensive habits.
