Shane Faulkner, Managing Director and Head of Sales at Swisslog spoke to Warehouse & Logistics News.

What are your best-known products/solutions/services?

As a company with such a long history and huge portfolio of solutions, it’s quite the challenge to think back and pull out the most distinguished products. Our expertise as the leading AutoStore integrator makes this a popular solution for Swisslog customers in the UK. But as businesses begin looking for more efficient ways to pick and pack their products, our robotic technologies such as ItemPiQ and ACPaQ are gaining some interest too.

Our AMR solution is becoming increasingly popular too, as its flexibility means distribution centres can increase output simply by adding more robots.

How do you think your industry sector is performing at the moment?

The intralogistics sector is experiencing rapid transformation. Demand for automation continues to rise, driven by labour shortages, increased e-commerce volumes, and the need for resilient supply chains. Companies are investing in more adaptive systems to stay competitive. The sector is healthy and growing, with innovation at its core.

How many markets are you in and what is your biggest market?

Swisslog operates in over 50 countries worldwide. Our largest markets include Germany, the United States, and the UK. We’re also expanding our footprint in France, Iberia, and the Benelux region. Each market presents unique challenges, but our global experience and local knowledge allow us to tailor systems to individual requirements.

What are your most recent product innovations?

Our recent innovations in 2025 focus on enhancing flexibility in logistics. We’ve introduced the IntraMove AMR series for intelligent pallet transport, and we’re also offering the expanded AutoStore capabilities with AutoCase and FlexBins.

Our SynQ software has also seen significant development in 2025, evolving into a unified, modular platform that integrates warehouse management, control, and material flow in one system.

Can you tell us about any recent customer contract wins or projects and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?

One excellent example of the transformative power of our AutoStore expertise is the partnership with La Réserve des Saveurs, a leading food logistics company in France. By implementing the AutoStore Multi-Temperature Solution, La Réserve des Saveurs was able to completely rethink its operations. The company optimised its storage capacity, reduced order delivery times, and significantly lowered its carbon footprint.

What is your strategy for growth and success in 2026?

Our strategy focuses on expanding into new markets, investing in research and development around AI and machine learning, strengthening partnerships with customers through long-term service models, and enhancing sustainability in our solutions and operations.

Can you tell us about any areas, such as in AI, where you’re currently making technical advances?

AI is central to our innovation roadmap. We’re developing machine learning models for predictive maintenance, dynamic slotting and inventory optimisation, and vision-based picking and classification. These advances are embedded in SynQ and are most notable in our ItemPiQ technology, which uses machine learning to handle a wide variety of SKUs.

Can you foresee autonomous mobile robots and goods-to-person systems becoming more mainstream to improve efficiency and reduce manual labour?

Autonomous mobile robots and goods-to-person systems are already reshaping warehouse operations. Their scalability, flexibility, and ability to reduce manual handling make them ideal for modern logistics. As costs decrease and technology matures, adoption will accelerate across industries.

Is the industry placing a greater emphasis on sustainability?

Sustainability is no longer optional, it’s a strategic imperative. Swisslog designs energy-efficient systems, promotes modular upgrades to reduce waste, and supports circular economy principles. We also help customers reduce their carbon footprint through optimised logistics flows.

What sets your company apart from others?

Swisslog combines deep industry expertise with progressive technology. Global experience with local knowledge. Our solutions are modular and scalable, data-driven and intelligent, and backed by worldwide service and support. We don’t just deliver systems, we build long-term partnerships.

How future-proof and flexible are your solutions?

Our solutions are designed to be futureproof and flexible. We offer modular systems, scalable robotics, and intelligent software that adapt to changing business needs across industries. It’s imperative to our vision that our projects ensure long-term efficiency, easy upgrades, and seamless integration with evolving technologies.

How would you sum up your company in three words?

Precision. Intelligence. Transformation.
