Scandit, the leader in smart data capture, today announced its latest major release – the SDK 8. Designed to embed intelligence at the point of data capture, the Scandit SDK 8 transforms traditional barcode scanning. Powered by the Scandit AI Engine, it empowers frontline workers and businesses with a workflow enabler that adapts to context, automates data capture and accelerates processes to reduce operational costs and drive productivity.
From retail, logistics to air travel and healthcare, frontline workflows are growing increasingly complex with more data points to capture and tighter resource constraints. With the Scandit SDK 8, businesses can streamline critical workflows by automating previously manual error-prone, time-intensive steps to reduce errors and increase operational efficiency. Frontline workers are guided through tasks seamlessly by augmented reality (AR) overlays to prioritize actions that will drive profitability such as optimized stock replenishment and receiving with exception handling.
Whether used by a retail store associate or a delivery driver in the last mile, the Scandit SDK 8 dynamically adjusts to the scanning environment and user intent to intelligently detect and decode only the selected data in real-time including barcodes, text and IDs. Automatically adapting to the user context reduces workflow disruption and increases frontline worker productivity – regardless of the conditions and volume of labels scanned.
New additions include:
- AI-powered Barcode Scanning: Reduces user frustration, interruption and errors with enhanced capabilities that dynamically adjusts its settings to scan the right barcode in cluttered environments even easier. With new advanced AI algorithms, intentional scans are filtered from accidental duplicates. Text recognition is triggered automatically as a back up to capture a barcode’s value when it’s unreadable.
- MatrixScan Pick: In dynamic environments such as store backrooms, warehouses and fulfilment centres, MatrixScan Pick enables users to scan multiple items simultaneously and instantly view associated tasks via an AR overlay. Users can interact with AR overlays via a simple tap to confirm actions and update the status. With up to 6x quicker process completion for workflows such as audit inventory, task execution is also more accurate. One luxury fashion retailer saved over $1m in annual labor savings by efficiently handling receiving with MatrixScan Pick. The time to train new workers is also minimized by removing the guesswork and reducing errors.
- Smart Label Capture: Extracts barcode and text data simultaneously from the same label more than 10x faster compared to manual input. Essential for expiry date checks on perishable items or price checks, businesses can accurately capture information required for compliance checks or reducing food waste. Automating such processes reduces mistakes, boosts revenues and increases customer satisfaction.
Christian Floerkemeier, CTO and Co-founder at Scandit, said: “Too many data capture tools rely only on the user to bring the intelligence. With the SDK 8 and the Scandit AI Engine, intelligence moves into the workflow itself – understanding what users are trying to do, anticipating the next step, and guiding them through it with real-time insights. With such smart data capture evolutions, resulting outcomes drive revenue, efficiency and increase customer satisfaction for businesses.”
Further updates in the SDK 8 include the addition of Barcode Clustering to MatrixScan Count which automatically identifies groups of barcodes together that belong to the same item rather than scanning one by one. Accelerating data capture by 20x, Barcode Clustering accurately associates related data and streamlines multi-barcode workflows such as stock counting and receiving.
For airlines, ID Bolt upgrades simplify the capture of more travel documents with the introduction of unstructured formats such as eVisas and invitation letters. Enabling consumers to scan such documents at home during the check-in process streamlines the airport passenger experience and reduces operational tasks for airlines. New white-labelling and UI/UX customizations make it easier for airlines to match the design of ID Bolt to their brand for a consistent and trusted user experience online.
