There are many aspects of loading bay equipment buyers should consider before placing an order, which are influenced by the type of products, environment and the sector the client works in. But one area often overlooked is dock management. This means significant losses every year through lorries waiting to dock at bays, while goods are also delivered to the wrong bays, requiring forklifts to transport them internally over long distances, wasting time and money, according to ALEM.

To address vehicle creep, Hörmann has developed their Automated Wheel Blocking System (AWB). This system automatically secures the vehicle’s wheels, eliminating the need for manual wheel chocks and reducing human error. Operated from within the building, the AWB engages once the vehicle is positioned, and a traffic light system signals to the driver when it is safe to depart.

A leading UK-based waste management company has recently upgraded its loading bay infrastructure by investing in two 12,000kg Type 6 Super Deluxe mobile yard ramps from Thorworld Industries—replacing two ageing ramps that had been in constant use in waste management loading for over 13 and 16 years respectively. The two new ramps were supplied to separate sites within the company’s network, following a site survey by distributor Darmax. Each ramp was equipped with pedestrian handrails, anti-slip surfaces at entry and exit points, and wheel chocks, ensuring the highest standards of safety and usability in busy waste processing environments.

UYS contacted Smart-Space looking for a temporary loading bay extension because their existing structure wasn’t protecting their finished goods from the elements. The company was originally looking to hire a temporary building for 2-3 years but it was quickly established that due to the levels and size of the area, a bespoke canopy made to order would be better value than a standard sized temporary building. UYS purchased a building with a 35-year warranty which meets building regulations standards – and took one week to build.
