Interroll and IMA E-COMMERCE, a new division of packaging industry leader IMA, have signed a partnership agreement under which the Italy-based group’s automated solutions will leverage Interroll’s intralogistics handling technologies, taking efficiency and precision to the next level.

The new partnership will see Interroll and IMA E-COMMERCE collaborate to develop new solutions for intralogistics automation.
The IMA E-COMMERCE division designs automated packaging solutions for the e-commerce, e-fulfilment, third-party logistics (3PL), and intralogistics markets. Its technological offering includes forming machines, closing machines, and integrated systems for customised packaging, all designed to increase operational efficiency, reduce waste, and improve process sustainability. The technologies are already in operation at customers in the pharmaceutical, CEP, and automotive sectors, with prospects for expansion into the food industry.
Simone Capponcelli, Sales Manager and Division Coordinator at IMA E-COMMERCE, said: “Interroll will help us with what is a fundamental part of e-commerce: the smooth, timely, and consistent movement of products that consumers, both business and retail, have purchased electronically and need to receive as quickly as possible. Our goal is quality combined with reliability and performance.
Julia Bonamici, Area Sales Manager Solution at Interroll Italia, said: “The world of e-commerce is booming, considering that sales through social media also recorded global growth of over 20 points in 2024. E-commerce is developing at a rapid pace, and IMA E-COMMERCE is well aware of this. This partnership represents a starting point for sharing the development of new solutions based on a shared industrial vision and business quality concept.”
Maurizio Catino, Chief Sales Officer of the Interroll Group, said: “In addition to the fundamental characteristics of Interroll, a global, experienced, and technologically advanced company that perfectly suits the needs of a world leader such as IMA, we also add our strong vocation for the development of handling technologies for the OEM sector. Thanks to our solutions for this specific segment, the recently established IMA E-COMMERCE division will be able to offer the market automated packaging solutions complete with conveyor technologies capable of responding quickly and accurately to the needs of the e-commerce industry.”
Ecommerce continues to grow rapidly as a sector. According to EMarketer, global e-commerce sales reached $6.09 trillion in 2024, an increase of 8.4% over the previous year, with an estimated average annual growth rate of 7.6% through 2028. In Italy, the trend is very similar, with online purchases reaching €58.8 billion in 2024, up 6% on the previous year. The Netcomm consortium predicts that the Italian market will exceed €62 billion, with products at €40.1 billion (+6%) and services at €22 billion (+8%).
IMA E-COMMERCE is part of the IMA Group, founded in 1961, a world leader in the development and production of automatic machines for the processing and packaging of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, tea, and coffee products, as well as in the automation of industrial processes. Today, the IMA Group has over 7,400 employees, of whom approximately 3,000 work abroad in 80 countries where 55 production facilities are located.
