Managing Director
Darren Hardiman, Managing Director at PD Industrial, talks to Warehouse & Logistics News.
What is your company’s core business model?
From design to procurement through to installation and maintenance, PD Industrial offers a fully integrated service. We approach all our projects on an individual basis as we understand that client needs change based on circumstances, for example the needs of a large warehouse will be different to a smaller industrial unit.
Who are your primary target customers and what are their needs?
Our primary customers are multi-site, large logistics and warehousing companies. One thing that sets PD Industrial apart is that we offer all our clients a true one-stop-shop for their maintenance and project-based needs for storage equipment.
How do you differentiate your products or services from competitors?
We’ve always been at the forefront of new product development – from our industry-first racking inspection portal, Theia, to our highly-anticipated new product, Goliath™. We invest heavily each year to develop products for the industry to provide current and prospective customers with improved and future-proofed innovations that provide a solution to their problems.
What new services/solutions are you offering for 2026?
We’re extremely proud to launch our UK and EU first accredited pallet racking upright repair kit, Goliath™. Goliath™ has been designed to retrofit to all types of pallet racking, making it suitable for use within any warehouse environment and works towards ending upright damage in warehouses.
How does this product differ from conventional upright repair methods?
We often see our clients in an endless cycle of damage and replace. 85% of all racking damage occurs below 600mm – it’s not big hits that cause the most damage, but the daily low impacts from MHE during loading and unloading of pallet racking. When a damaged upright occurs, rather than replacing a whole upright, we simply remove the bottom 700mm and replace it with Goliath™. Our method means clients don’t need any other protection as it’s designed to take daily impacts, and if it does get damaged, we’ll replace it free of charge. There’s no other product on the market that offers this protection.
How long does it take to fit?
Goliath™ can be fitted in less than 30 minutes, making it ideal for busy warehouses. Due to the process we use to install, it also means downtime is reduced.
Is it more expensive than just changing the damaged upright?
In most cases, no, because the repair kit is quicker to install and needs no plant for installation. The kit has been designed to protect against future damage, meaning customers won’t have to replace uprights on a regular basis, reducing their maintenance costs.
Will my racking carry the same weight loading after a repair?
Goliath™ has been designed and tested to carry a 21,000kgs bay load, with a 100% overloading safety factor built-in. This makes the repair much stronger than the damaged upright it’s replacing.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes, Goliath™ includes a full Lifetime Impact Warranty. That means if it becomes damaged from normal use, we’ll replace or repair it for free – no questions asked. We also offer a warranty that covers the repairs process and overall structure.
Have racking manufacturers approved this method of repair?
The simple answer is – why would they? Racking damage is big business for all manufacturers, so a product that’s unlikely to ever need replacing makes no sense to them. We listened to the problems our customers were experiencing – long lead times, ever-increasing costs – and decided to invest heavily in this product to offer a faster and more cost effective solution for our customers.
How do you know your product is safe to use?
Goliath™ is independently certified by Bureau Veritas and meets the following regulations:
•BS EN 15512:2020 + A1:2022 Steel Storage Systems – Adjustable Racking Systems – Principles for Structural Design
•BS EN 15635:2008 Steel Static Storage Systems – Application and Maintenance of Storage Equipment
•SEMA Code of Practice for the Design of Adjustable Pallet Racking
•SEMA Code of Practice for the Design and Use of Racking Protection
