Precision and speed are no longer optional in our today’s high-pressure logistics landscape. They’re expected! As outbound volumes grow, product assortments diversify, and delivery windows shrink, warehouses are turning to automation to stay ahead. With its Cross Belt Sorter, DFT (Dürkopp Fördertechnik) delivers a solution that meets these demands head-on: fast, scalable, and designed for reliable 24/7 operation.

Developed in close cooperation with parent company KNAPP, the Cross Belt Sorter combines mechanical know-how with expertise in controls, software integration, and intelligent system design. Many years of experience in shuttle technology and sorter technology lay the basis for this product. This fully in-house approach ensures smooth integration and performance optimisation across the entire system lifecycle.

The Cross Belt Sorter is part of DFT’s Smart Sorting Solutions and is primarily designed for high-volume outbound sortation, where large numbers of orders must be shipped with minimal delay. It is equally capable of item-level sortation, offering flexibility for customers across a wide range of industries – including fashion, wholesale, pharmaceutical distribution, retail, electronics, and the CEP sector.

Technically, the system is engineered to deliver high throughput while maintaining gentle, precise handling of goods. Items are transported on individual transverse belts that discharge products accurately into designated chutes, cartons, or downstream conveyor lines. Whether sorting soft polybags or heavier boxed items, the system maintains consistent handling quality across a broad product spectrum.

The layout itself is fully modular. Straight runs, curves, inclines, and declines can be combined to fit any building footprint, making the Cross Belt Sorter suitable for both greenfield projects and retrofitted systems. Despite its high performance, the sorter operates with impressively low noise levels and is designed for easy maintenance, long service intervals, and energy efficiency.

One of the key strengths of the solution is its tight integration of hardware and software. DFT’s in-house material flow control and visualisation tools give operators real-time insight and full control over the sortation process. Thanks to this unified platform, implementation times are shortened, and long-term serviceability is significantly improved.

In operational terms, the Cross Belt Sorter helps customers reduce manual handling, increase accuracy, and significantly shorten lead times. As consumer expectations shift toward faster and more flexible delivery, the need for automated systems that can scale with demand has never been greater. With its combination of throughput, reliability, and engineering depth, DFT’s system provides a future-proof foundation for modern logistics operations.

This isn’t just a sorter – it’s a strategic investment in long-term performance. By leveraging the combined strengths, customers gain access to a high-performance sortation platform backed by decades of intralogistics experience. Whether used in a regional fulfilment center or a central distribution hub, the Cross Belt Sorter is ready to keep pace with whatever comes next.
